Is it now possible to earn EY points on EI? And is it possible to gain lounge access when flying EI on the basis of EY Gold?

Thanks,

J.

As things currently stand, no.

When the EY codeshares on EI metal kick off in the third quarter, you will earn EY points on those flights, just as you would on any other EY codeshare.

The two airlines are currently discussing new collaborations - which, according to the EY press release, includes looking at their frequent flyer programs. Unless and until anything new is announced in this sphere, you should not expect to be able to earn EY points/miles when flying on EI-coded flights, and you won't have access to the few Gold Circle lounges on the basis of EY Gold. And ditto for Gold Circle members on EY flights/EY lounges (save for those flights sold by EI on EY).

Thanks for you reply. Will I earn on EI flights on the basis of them also having an EY code, or do they have to be booked through EY. I don't have EI card and couldn't be bothered getting one. But I do have EY gold.

Now, that I am not entirely sure of, so I can't say.

I've not played around with trying to book such an itinerary on the EY website yet, but the Aer Lingus website does not yet seem to be capable of booking onward travel on Etihad - whether it ever will, or will just redirect you to the EY website, remains to be seen.

But I would imagine that, if you are travelling on a single ticket that takes in travel on both EI and EY, then you should be able to earn points on EY, regardless of whether you buy the ticket from EI or from EY (though, as I hint above, perhaps such tickets will only be sold by EY, with the EI website directing you there to book such journeys)

I'm actually referring to itineraries where there are no EY legs. I've moved over from DJ and I think they allow earn on partner airlines for any itinerary.

That was the very first question you asked - and as things currently stand, the answer is still no.

I appreciate the patience, although it may be wearing thin.:) I wasn't sure if I was explaining the question fully. But it seems I have been understood. The EY partnership does not make EY loyalty a replacement for EI loyalty. You need to be travelling itineraries inorporating EY legs to earn on EI flights, once the codeshare starts.

Things move more slowly than we would like them.

At the moment, it appears to be impossible to even just buy any of these promised codeshare tickets.

When the codeshares start, then you should be able to earn miles in either airlines' programme when travelling on those tickets only. When travelling on any other type of flight or ticket on the other airline, you won't be able to earn anything.

The day when you will be able to freely earn Etihad miles on any and all Aer Lingus flights is a long, long, long, long way off - and may never arrive.
