I like Genos for simply one reason that they dont chop up the meat.
Their hot sauce is amazing as well.
What do you prefer? and Why?

Analise May 19, 10, 11:55 am Check out the Philly forum for this topic; it's been covered quite a bit. :D Pat's of course. ^ The bread is freshly baked, love the generous portions of rib eye and onions...yum! Marries well with the cheese. dhammer53 May 19, 10, 1:32 pm Slightly off topic... http://www.jimssteaks.com/SouthStreet.html Much better IMHO. Jazzop May 19, 10, 5:37 pm EDIT: I just tried both today. Geno's wins, hands down. Much juicier and the bread was better. bk3day May 19, 10, 9:07 pm Gosh it's probably been almost 25 years (and pre-Cheez Wiz days) since I've been to either one but I still remember my preference was always Geno's. ludocdoc May 19, 10, 9:16 pm Delessandros. It was so delicious where I can eat Philly cheesesteak. I will go to Charlie's for next time if I can have a lunch. DCAview Jun 11, 10, 9:30 am Pat's or Geno's? Neither. John's Roast Pork on Snyder just west of Delaware Avenue is the best cheesesteak in town. Also, their roast pork is pretty good too. If you don't want to go all the way down there, you could do a lot worse than Jim's. Yet another reason to avoid Genos besides their tough meat and old bread. dchristiva Aug 15, 11, 8:34 am Pat's, wiz wit! If strictly limited to Pat's or Geno's, Pat's gets my vote, too. But, if you really want the best cheesesteak, there are far better choices, like dhammer53's recommendation. bkgourmet Aug 17, 11, 11:14 pm Tony Luke's +1 ^^^ i like this one the best out of all of them! bitburgr Aug 23, 11, 8:08 pm Joey Vento, owner of Geno's and the guy responsible for the English-only ordering policy, passes away. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20110823_Joey_Vento_dead_at_71.html?cmpid=12521996 9 kipper Aug 24, 11, 7:14 am Joey Vento, owner of Geno's and the guy responsible for the English-only ordering policy, passes away. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20110823_Joey_Vento_dead_at_71.html?cmpid=12521996 9 Of a massive heart attack... ByrdluvsAWACO Aug 27, 11, 9:39 pm Real cheesesteaks don't have that dairy-diarrhea slathered all over it. I'm Philly-born(late 60's) and no one served "wiz-steaks" when I was growing up there. Although, food was better then as well. Pat's simply because Geno's has an English only ordering policy. ^ How hard can it be to say "Cheesesteak please" no matter what language you speak? dchristiva Aug 29, 11, 9:08 am How hard can it be to say "Cheesesteak please" no matter what language you speak? The point isn't whether it's easy or hard to say "cheesesteak, please". It's that a person shouldn't have to speak a specific language in order to get service. @:-) ekardz Aug 30, 11, 7:10 pm pats is the best. it should be the benchmark for comparison, they did invent the cheesesteak. bitburgr Aug 31, 11, 6:59 am It's that a person shouldn't have to speak a specific language in order to get service. @:-) Customers can order in any language they want. kipper Aug 31, 11, 11:08 am Customers can order in any language they want. Looks like the same sign as the South Street location, but I wouldn't go there. YMMV. Bloodshot2k Feb 20, 12, 5:52 am Both of these places suck and are over rated. I loved both, but they both cost over $7, and only Geno's gave me a free pen, so GENO'S! If I'm paying over $7 for sloppy meat on a bun, I'd better get a souvenir out of it too! Flying Machine Apr 21, 12, 8:56 pm Cosmis Meat 1501 S. 8th Street, then walk down the block to Termini Pastry for a Cannoli.. I did it and enjoyed.. BTW, Pats and Genos are for the Tourists ( which I am ) Also.. in the Italian Market places for good Hogies are Paesanos and Sarcones.. Enjoy!! niftyknitter Apr 25, 12, 7:07 am That speaks volumes. Enjoy Applebees! Why stop there; why not go to Olive Garden too. :-: Hey! Don't knock Olive Garden...it serves a purpose! Cheap food and who doesn't like bottomless garlic breadsticks? ;) My vote goes to Pat's. One time my dad went to Geno's and got a sandwich for us to try while we were on line for Pat's and we will still vote for Pat's. Although, like others have suggested Jim's is yummy too. printingray May 22, 12, 10:16 am I had many random Philly cheese steaks when I was there, all of them touting to be "world's best". The only thing I remember is the central marketplace/station building. CMK10 May 29, 12, 1:24 pm Permission to suggest an alternate suggestion? Jim's Steaks on South Street and 4th. Great little neighborhood too and it's not at all touristy. My only knock on the place is they don't have fries or Pabst Blue Ribbon. I took my brother who has an equally discerning palate to mine and he liked it just as much. MadProfessor Aug 8, 12, 5:53 pm Where is the best place to try? Must say it was rather good. Obviously can't compare it to the others. We timed it badly arrived around 5:30pm when they were just changing shift and stopped serving for about 15 minutes. Consultette Sep 10, 12, 8:13 am Jim's, for sure... The best meals I've ever had in Philly are Jim's followed by a trip to The Franklin Fountain |
