American Express Membership Rewards - Do Amex giftcards purchases count toward American Express bonus thresholds?

I just got targeted by mail via RSVP code and got approved for the AMEX Business Gold Card's 75K membership points after $5k spend (not $10K spend).

I want to purchase AMEX Gift Cards for $5000.

Will I still accrue 75K points if I buy $5000 worth of AMEX Gift cards or not?

If you buy them at a grocery store most likely, I doubt if you purchase them from amex directly then they will count. May even count as a cash advance, but YMMV.

Every time I've bought Amex gift cards from the Amex website the purchases have always posted as a purchase (earning points as well) so I'd assume they'd count towards spend requirements.

There are a couple of posts here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/1215231-getting-spending-up-without-mint-3.html that say you risk a FR (financial review) by AMEX for doing this & having yours accts. closed. Proceed with caution. I had the same thought but don't think I'll do it now.
