I always request wake up calls by calling front desk at hotel. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have been screwed over when the front desk forgot to call me the next morning. I found a couple websites that will place wake up calls for you. Has anyone ever used one of these? Have you had good/bad experience? Worth the money? (Added links to web pages of a couple of them below).

First off very few hotels have direct dial to room... whether the desk puts through the call, etc. makes it risky. But why bother? Just use the alarm clock built into your phone ...

Yeah I have 10 alarms possible on my phone and I set them with different alarm tones to tell me audibly how close I am to needing to leave the house every morning.

I use Betwext (http://betwext.com/remind)'s free Remind service for various things; really easy way to have a text sent to you at a specific time, you could easily use it for your wake-up call if you turn the volume all the way up :)

Buy an alarm clock, and leave it in your suitcase. Works every time. Or if it doesn't, at least you know who to blame.

Google Calendar will do the same thing.

Be prepared for security fun, though:

While I wish I could help you, I understand your urge! I used to travel with a wind-up, Baby Ben clock. I liked the solid, mechanical-sounding tick-tock. It was a kindler and gentler thing to wake up to than my cell phone's current selection of Reveille! :p

But I finally stopped carrying it when one-too-many security line personnel would grill me because they'd never actually seen an analog or wind-up clock -- I pitied their youth when one of them said "Why don't you carry a real clock?!?"

You shouldn't have bought that particular clock, probably....

There is a software part of Novell that I use on my server and in the program it will Wake my laptop up at a certain time with either a music track playing or a message that says"This is your wakeup call" or "Dinner with Mark in 20 minutes". So when my laptop is connected to my home's WLAN the software is running in the background. It never failed once(:

The drawback to using Novell software is that once you are fully awake and cleared headed you suddenly realize the year isn't 1994 after all.

Very very few hotel offer direct dial to room, therefore many of these service will not work going into a hotel room.

If you are paying for a service to call your mobile phone, wouldn't it be cheaper to use the phone's built in alarm?
