I have a conference for a week in Las Vegas and I have booked a studio for $89 per night with a free upgrade to their 1 bdrm suite. I am a Gold member thru the Surpass card and am curious to find out if I cancel the original booking and rebook a studio now for $71 per night what are the odds of being upgraded to a 1 bdrm suite due to my Gold status thru the Surpass card? If it isn't potential then I'll keep my original reservation but it if cld happen I'll dump the original and rebook the studio.

The property hasn't been a Hilton since the first of this year.

Sorry, I meant the Hilton Grand Vacations Suites at the Convention Center

How are you getting a guaranteed free upgrade with the original reservation.

If the upgrade is important to you I would pay the extra $10 a night.

I have stayed there before for just a weekend as a diamond and haven't been upgraded. It will just depend on if they have the upgrade available and for an entire week and how many diamonds and other golds are there. It won't matter how you acquired the gold status. I'm not even sure if upgrades are a stated benefit at HGVC but I know they do occur.

Upgrades aren't a gold benefit at HGVC.
At Hilton Grand Vacations:

Early Check in/Late Check out, upon request, subject to availability.
Two bottles of water per stay.
1,000 HHonors bonus points per stay.

James and Jerry, I appreciate the reply. I'll keep my original reservation and get the free upgrade. Hilton is running a upgrade special now to where you book a studio room at $89 and get a free upgrade to a 1 bdrm suite (called the Suite Deal Upgrade) or else you book a studio for $71 per night and enjoy the room. To me a extra $20 per night for much more leg room is worth it to me. Thanks for the info with HGVC's and potential upgrades.

Direct from the hotel is that they NEVER do upgrades.

While I have never been upgraded (no 1-br suites were available when I was there), I know they do upgrades. Someone in my office (diamond) has been upgraded before and another friend of mine has also been upgraded (diamond). YMMV but it does happen.

Since it's such a small amount and you will be there for a week, I would just pay the difference. The one-br suites have a lot more room and the kitchen space is nice, there is the jacuzzi tub and if you need it the 1-br's have washer and dryers in the units.

At the Hilton or at the HGV Suites?

Some HGVC's will upgrade golds. There have been reports of the Elyara doing it. I have never heard of the convention center HGVC's doing it (it is very hard for a diamond to even get upgraded there). An upgrade at the LVH wasn't much. I stayed there many times and wasn't impressed at all with the rooms and I was in an "upgraded delxue room" everytime. However all the other benefits like the cheap rate, 2 free breakfast buffets, etc made it worth staying there. The VIP lounge access is nice as well and that is a benefit the hotel will still give you if you show your diamond card

I agree, some HGVC's will but the title of the thread (now changed) referred to the LVH, where upgrades were common (but as you say didn't mean much) but at HGV Suites not so much. Which is why I asked the question. I've never been upgraded even as a diamond at the HGV Suites.

As mentioned a couple posts up someone in my office was upgraded there once but the hotel was sold out so it possible he got something similar to an op-up. I found out the other person I mentioned was upgraded at the LVH not the HGVC. I have also never been upgraded as a diamond. If the hotel happens to be in an oversell for studios I would hope they would upgrade a diamond over a gold.

Agreed.

I have stayed at the HGV on the north end of the strip about 23 times this year and have been upgraded at least 6 or 7 times. It doesn't happen often, but it can happen. As stated on the HGV rules, they don't have to do it. Of course I'm there every week so it's possible. I've been a diamond for 3 years and personally, the upgrades are rare for the properties I've stayed at.

As everyone else has stated, LVH is not Hilton anymore (and is a sub par property anyway) and I would never go into a HGV hoping for an upgrade. Take advantage of the offer - the 1 bedroom suites are nice.

Are you talking about the HGVC beside the old LVH or the HGVC that is the tall building (there may be two buildings) on the other side of the street down a little bit? I have never stayed there, but haven't been upgraded at the one beside the old LVH but I know gold and diamonds seem to have luck being upgraded at the Elyra (problem is the convention center rates for a 1-br are considerably cheaper than the Elyra whenever I am in vegas).

I like the 1 bedroom suites at the HGVC next to the old LVH. It's nice having the washer and dryers in unit (even though they have free laundry in the basement) and I like that the pool is open until 10 there. Nice being able to swim laps without the pool full of people.

Since the LVH has no longer been a Hilton this is the property I stay at now in LV (although I think I am going to give Tropicanna a try or may stay at the LVH if I can get their current promo on the days I am there).

I have been happy there. If there isn't much of a price difference I would go or the 1-bedroom suite over a studio. The times I have had a studio they wouldn't upgrade me and the only person I know that was upgraded there was someone from my office and they were sold out so they may have upgraded him needing the studio. The 1 bedrooms have a lot more room, full kitchen, washer and dryer in unit and the jacuzzi tub is nice.

I really like the pool. It is open till 10 so I enjoy being able to take a swim around 8 p.m. when I arrive after my flight and if the pool isn't empty there is only a couple other people using it. The grill area is nice as well. Plenty of parking in the lot out front for free and easy walk to the monorail if you don't have a car and easy to get to Fremont Street.

Biggest drawback for me is dining options. The deli isn't that great if you don't want to go offsite, but plenty of places in the area. They are also stingy with the water now. They use to give diamonds water for free at the front desk or the valet out front would give you water by just showing your diamond card. Now they give you two vouchers for your entire stay for the deli and the water bottles are small and the deli has to be open in order to use them so if you have a late flight arriving-no water that day.
