United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - United MP vs AAdvantage Miles Question

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to get your opinions about something. I was looking into award flights and I saw a big difference between awards for UA and AA ( I have miles on both, but I prefer/fly with UA).

On AA, for 40k round trip, I can go to Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, or Dublin (just some things that I looked at). The same itinerary on UA is 60K. What do you guys think of the difference? Why the discrepancy? The miles are more or less the same to obtain on both FF programs, but one charges less to fly?

Just wanted feedback/opinions.

Thanks!

It's only 40K on AA for the couple months of the year they classify as off-peak. Otherwise it's 60K.

which are the months in which they halve their TATL capacity so you could pretty much forget getting nonstop anywhere that's not a banking hub

I have miles in both programs, but lately I'm finding aa miles more valuable than ua mp

I've only recently compared both programs, I realized, over the last few years I've spent so many more extra miles from trips to South America on UA.. I just recently transferred 40K miles to AA to test it out. I will gladly wait a few months to save 20,000 .... Going to Europe for New Years, I've been UA elite for too long !!
