American Express Membership Rewards - Moving to Canada - Question about Amex Platinum

Hello All
I need some advice regarding my situation.
I am moving to Montreal from US in 3 weeks and won't be entering US for a period of 1 year.
I currently hold a US Amex PRG card. I travel every week and so this card has been very useful in terms of earning points on airfare etc.
I got a pre-approved Platinum card offer online. I see it when I login. It says -
25000 points for first purchase + 25000 points after spending USD $40000 with annual fee of $450.

Also, after moving to Canada, my travel won't be as much as it is now. So, having a PRG card won't get me as many points. Also, I believe there is no matching card in Canada equivalent to AMEX PRG.

Question is: Should I take the US platinum card now and use it in canada for next 1 year or should I apply for a new canadian platinum card which is $699 in annual fee?

Does amex allow us to use their cards exclusively abroad for longer periods of time?

Take the US one. With no foreign exchange fees it's a good deal.

US plat has no forex fee but it's only 1 point per dollar. CDN plat has a higher annual fee and has forex fee but it's 1.25 point per dollar.

depends on how much you will spend in Canada.

Welcome to Flyertalk. The higher earnings rate is offset in part by the poorer transfer ratio to most airline partners, and by the smaller number of transfer partners.
