Air New Zealand Air Points - Two Class Upgrade with OneUp + Recognition Upgrade?
Hi there!
I'm hoping to be able to do a two class upgrade on an upcoming flight -- as NZ*S I've got one recognition upgrade and I'm wondering whether it's possible to combine this with a OneUp upgrade (assuming that clears, of course!)
Has anyone done this before? Would there be any foreseeable issues? [1] Is the recognition upgrade still available on the website once you've requested a OneUp upgrade or would it have to be done manually? And given the OneUp upgrades clear before the recognition upgrade I'm assuming I should wait until I hear about that before doing anything with the recognition upgrade?
Thanks in advance for any advice! PB
[1] The Airpoints T&Cs are a bit vague and there's a section that says "On applicable routes, a mix of Air New Zealand Upgrades cannot be used to bypass the Premium Economy cabin for upgrades from Economy to Business Premier" but arguably it's unclear whether this covers the above scenario or not..

You can't officially, a mixture of upgrades isn't allowed.
You might technically be able to do it though if you first win the OneUp, then submit your recognition upgrade, hope the remaining BP seats don't get sold or given to GE/G upgrades, and then hope someone at NZ doesn't notice you were upgraded by OneUp and then processes your recognition upgrade, although I'd say the chances of that are rather fanciful.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too worried about seats being available on this flight, more whether or not it's possible.. and now after your reply, whether or not feigning ignorance might be helpful if/when I try to use the recognition upgrade.. ha! ;)
Thanks, PB.

It would be great if it did happen like this!!

Have just been in touch with AIr NZ marketing after trying to do a two class upgrade using a recognition plus a oneup.
As this is my last major trip (Vancouver Auckland) have been trying to work out how to upgrade my economy to Business.
He (Kevin Seward) says its not possible to upgrade 2 classes. I pointed out to him that the website does not say this. In fact it says with 2 gold recognition awards you can (unfortunately I only have 1 gold award left).
As my gold award expires in September have chosen to use that to go from Economy to Premium. But its not very satisfactory.
Have to say I am not impressed with the new upgrade program. I wrote to Rob Fyfe pointing out it was gambling (he didnt think it was???).
There is currently no way I can find for using Airpoint dollars to do a 2 class upgrade.
Bloody silly if you ask me.
Update 1 Sept. Got my 2 class upgrade thanks to intervention of Rob Fyfe. Long story but had to have 2 recognition upgrades. No plans to allow 2 cabin upgrades with airpoints. Still bloody stupid idea but LOVED my 14 hour flight in Business Class

You have never been able to use a combination of upgrades. If you had two recognition upgrades, you should've been able to do this. Your only other option is to buy up to PE and use your recognition from there.

Welcome to FT .
Unfortunately 2 class upgrades using Airpoint Dollars are now specifically excluded as a benefit for members.
It's one of the reasons why I currently do not credit any travel to Airpoints and am prepared to let my Gold Elite status run out.
