Few questions re: HKG-YYZ-HKG
(a) Can anyone comment on the effect of the new Cirrus product and Y+ seating on availability of Op-Ups for HKG-YYZ and YYZ-HKG route? Last time I traveled on this route was an year ago. Back then, the Y cabin used to be overbooked at almost every summer-time HKG-YYZ flight.
(b) Does the number of Op-Ups vary between the HKG-YYZ vs YYZ-HKG flight? In the past, I op-up'ed several times for the HKG-YYZ sector but none for the YYZ-HKG sector.
(c) My wife and I traveling together on a upcoming trip. Is there a way to ensure either we get op-up'ed together or not at all. We are on separate PNRs since the return dates are different for the two of us.

What status do yourself and your wife have?

On:
(b) - I am not familiar with YYZ, but it happens often on SFO flights. I suppose people are willing to go for mileage upgrades on longer flights with the same mileage requirement.
(c) - It is difficult to guarantee that, but you can try to call to link the bookings to minimize the chance that you and your wife may end up in different cabins.

Myself lowly MPC SL; wife is still MPC green..
so to be honest, the chance of Op-Up is quite low anyway. But a couple of times, I got Op-Up'ed and ended up sending her to the J cabin while I was in the window-side middle seat of a 3-3-3 config. Another time, I declined the Op-Up but my original seat had already been reassigned. So I had to request couple of other passengers to arrange two seats together. This I think is bothersome.

It happens to me all the time as me (GR) & my other half (GO).
We don't mind in separated cabin for few hours but both of us are tall & hate the middle seats! Try the following:
1/ if 3-3-3, mark your seats on both sides of the aisle, i.e. C & D or F & H. Or,
2/ If 2-4-2, put the lower status one on aisle in case op-up but loss the original seat.
3/ link 2 PRN lower the chance of being op-up; if u know on advance, say during check-in or at the lounge, ask them nicely to be generous enough to op-up your other half. If at the gate, the chance of your other half will be even lower, but still ask.
4/ CX is famous on last equip. change, if the plan doesn't work out, don't in bad mood & just request to them & I'm sure all the ground staff will try their best to help.
Good luck on your coming flight.
