Virgin Australia Velocity - "Eligible Sectors" Query

I just received my latest Velocity statement and it says that in order to maintain my Platinum status, as of August 25, 2011 I need to fly 8 eligible sectors in addition to the required number of status credits.

I'm trying to determine how the August 25 date plays out with my review date of July 20, 2013. Does it mean I only have 11 months in which I need to fly the required number of eligible sectors to re-qualify? I'm actually going to be flying at least two VA sectors before the August 25 date.

Also, according to the Velocity statement the definition of an Eligible Sector is:

"An Eligible Sector is a flown journey from an origin to a destination on a Virgin Australia booking (DJ or VA Flight number)."

On that basis if I have a Virgin Australia booking on flight VA6513 from LAX-JFK which is in fact operated by DL then this should count as an eligible sector according to the above definition. Unfortunately my return flight from JFK-LAX is on Virgin America and the flight number is showing as a VX flight number.

I presume that Family Pooling doesn't extend to "Eligible Sectors"

You'd need the eight sectors between July 20, 2012 and July 20, 2013. They have been counting them since August last year..

Incorrect. The counting of eligible sectors only comes into play now (for most people from August onwards, some people July) It was never a factor in maintaining status when the new Velocity program launched last year.

So, if the review date is July 20, 2013 (i.e. next year), why would the sector count not apply?

The sector count only counts from now, not from August last year as you previously mentioned. If you check any Velocity accounts before June this year there was a note saying that eligible sectors would not start to be included as part of maintaining status until July/Aug this year to maintain as part of 2013

I said they have been counting them. In my case they have counted to 9 so far. My statement that they have been counting them is correct.

Yes they have been counting them since last year and showing on statements, but not taking them into consideration with maintaining status until this July/August.

On the subject of what counts as an eligible sector, by my understanding of Velocity's definition, if I were planning on doing a SYD-SIN-SYD flight, rather than book on SQ's website with an SQ flight number, I should book with virgin on VA flight numbers even though the flights are operated by SQ.

Correct. Only VA (or DJ) coded flights are counted as eligible.
