Asia - Ho Chi Minh City: Park Hyatt vs InterContinental

First time in Ho Chi Minh City, and I am deciding between the Park Hyatt and InterContinental. The Park Hyatt is around US$120 more expensive, and I was wondering if it is worth it in terms of location, comfort, surroundings, etc.

Location would be pretty important as to which one is easier to just walk outside and reach the main parts of town or to see things.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hyatt location maybe slightly better, but they are really only a few blocks away from each other so not a big deal.

Both are excellent hotels, not sure I'd pay a $120/night premium for the Hyatt over the IC. $120 per day will go a long way in Vietnam.

Honestly, I can't see any great advantage in the Hyatt's location - unless it's easy access to the opera.......

The Intercontinental is a delightful hotel: club-level is particularly comfortable, with a very well run lounge. I've never stayed at the Hyatt, and could never be persuaded to pay a premium over the IC to do so.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is for the Club Deluxe Room at the IC versus the Park Room for Hyatt. Leaning towards the IC right now!

The Park Hyatt is more convenient then the Intercontinental when it comes to boutiques, shops, and sightseeings. Don't underestimate the walk under the heat and humidity of Saigon. Whether the price diferential is worth that advantage, you should make the decision.

I have stayed numerous times at both. The Park Hyatt has the cache the IC doesn't have, but for $120 difference I would choose the IC.

Don't forget you can book the Hyatt through AMEX (and probably Virtuoso) to get an upgrade, benefits etc. Depending when you go you may get a free night. It is also worth checking if you can find a rate cheaper than direct through Hyatt (try hotelscombined) as then they discount the rate a further 20%.

Why don't sample some historic location as Continental or Rex, instead "Mc Donalds" around the world?

I was walking down Hai Ba Trung last night and thought of this thread. Timed it between the two: 9 minutes at a reasonable pace.

I would have that it less than that.

ha ha ha.. well there's four roads to cross - Nguyen Du, Ly Tu Trong, Le Thanh Ton and HBT. Think I lost some time there as traffic was heavy and the lights were against me. Whilst I don't have a problem crossing the road in VN, I generally respect the red man/green man thing.

Any volunteers to walk it again?

Completely understand. All of those streets are busy and the motorbikes tend to continue through for a few seconds even after the lights have changed.

I'll be there this weekend. I'll see if I can give it a go.

I've stayed at both, definitely IC if price is a factor.

:td: Continental or Rex, for nostalgia may be, but no where near the level of Hyatt or IC.
