GLBT Travelers - Appropriate male swimwear CambodiaView Full Version : Appropriate male swimwear Cambodia pallensf Aug 6, 12, 11:02 pm Speedos allowed or more of a boardshorts kinda place? :--) smith80678 Aug 6, 12, 11:44 pm Speedos are okay but boardshorts are more common. This is true over most of asia. Nobody will make a fuss about speedos, unlike the USA, but you will just not see many wearing them. pallensf Aug 6, 12, 11:53 pm Thanks smith! I will compromise and wear square cut trunks...:-) adampenrith Aug 7, 12, 5:45 am Wear your speedo particulary if u have a good bod. boston aa flyer Aug 7, 12, 5:58 am IMO, if you have to ask, it's too small :-) regardless of bod behuman Aug 7, 12, 9:15 am Speedos allowed or more of a boardshorts kinda place? :--) I love this thread. Why ladies over the world wear sexy swimwear, but men these horrible and unhygienic shorts ? Please enlighten me ! I know it is not just an US thing. One poster suggests it is because men don't want to show something is "too small" - I like to look at it in all shapes and sizes anyway. I think wearing fashionable fit swimwear is a very gay thing and a mark of distinction for our community - not the original Speedo brand of course but something like this http://www.olafbenz.com/en_AC/collection/blu-spring-summer-20110.html?no_cache=1 smith80678 Aug 7, 12, 9:44 am Oddly enough, I talked to Thai women in the 30+ age range and they actually prefer men in speedos as opposed to boardshorts pallensf Aug 7, 12, 9:53 am isn't it funny how it's Americans who are so UPTIGHT about bodies and Speedos? :-( life is way too short.... also, I am looking at the Golden Banana hotel in Siem Riep for a few days while touring the temples... :-) izzik Aug 7, 12, 11:59 am Speedos okay but boardshorts are the more common. This is true over most asia. Nobody will make a fuss about speedos, unlike the USA, but you will just not see many wearing them , I would disagree - I felt speedos were the norm for most of Asia.. VickiSoCal Aug 7, 12, 12:33 pm I am very curious as to how board shorts are un-hygenic? The trend in California for both males and females seems to be more coverage. I'm seeing more and more rash guards and even board shorts on girls this year at Newport and Huntington Beach than I ever have. smith80678 Aug 7, 12, 12:40 pm I am very curious as to how board shorts are un-hygenic? The trend in California for both males and females seems to be more coverage. I'm seeing more and more rash guards and even board shorts on girls this year at Newport and Huntington Beach than I ever have. The un-hygenic comes from men who wipe their hands on their pants after eating etc.. France, in fact, prohibits shorts in their swimming pools for this reason. They actually make you wear a speedo. And yes, so true about the trend towards more coverage. Dont really know why. char777 Aug 7, 12, 9:50 pm Oddly enough, I talked to Thai women in the 30+ age range and they actually prefer men in speedos as opposed to boardshorts That's not who we're trying to impress, is it? :p adampenrith Aug 8, 12, 9:17 am All I can say is that in a pool full of 10 's, the ones wearing a speedo would the ones on my must cruise list. An 11 in boardies would not get a listing let alone a look in travel.flier Aug 8, 12, 3:44 pm why not wear the uniform that the US rowing team was wearing djjaguar64 Aug 8, 12, 7:09 pm I have worn a loin cloth there and no one cared. publicrelasian Aug 13, 12, 11:02 am I stayed at the Golden Banana and while it's not exclusively gay, it's owned by a gay dutch guy and most of the staff are gay -- very gay friendly, and speedos are definitely okay here. I had a wonderful tuk-tuk driver who has since obtained a tour guide license and I've referred him to a few friends who have all come back raving about him. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the deets. you'll LOVE Siem Reap. I loved it and am planning to go back next year. pallensf Aug 14, 12, 12:30 am I stayed at the Golden Banana and while it's not exclusively gay, it's owned by a gay dutch guy and most of the staff are gay -- very gay friendly, and speedos are definitely okay here. I was contemplating the Golden Banana for a stay of 4 days, and your reply just confirmed my selection. And thanks for the Speedo comment...lol :-) This will be my 1st trip to Siem Riep, so much looking forward to it. Also, I am going to get a regular room versus the B&B style. Of course A/C is a must. I am planning on being in SEP December 16-20th. Mahalo, Patrick :-) pallensf Aug 14, 12, 4:11 pm Ok then - booked Golden Banana for December, I will be interested to see how my experience fares...:-) Thanks for all the feedback! Patrick :--) ps- still trying to decide if I should go to Sihanoukville for 2 days of not. AJLondon Aug 18, 12, 3:25 pm Enjoy your trip. And feel free to update us with a trip report. Including pics. Men's speedo are very acceptable in there, unlike in the U.S. |
