Qatar Airways Privilege Club - QR business class experience on short flights (SGN-BKK)

Hi all-

I'm looking at a fairly complex award booking and as part of it need to get between ICN-BKK.

I have three options:

OZ (Asiana) : ICN-BKK direct on an A330 in biz
TG (Thai) : ICN-BKK direct on a 777-200 in biz
OZ / QR (Qatar): ICN-SGN, then SGN-BKK (Asiana on an 777-200 in biz, x/ Qatar on a 773ER in biz)

All three itineraries are equal cost and I still reach my destination at the same time, although the QR connection adds a few hours and reduces sleep time by a bit for my BKK overnight stay.

If I pick the connection in SGN onto Qatar, what should I expect from QR J on this short route? I assume that, as a tag on a longer flight, it won't be full food and amenity service - what is missing that is ordinarily supplied on long haul flights?

Do you think it's worth adding the extra connection and ~2-3 hours to experience QR's service over OZ or TG's direct flights?

If anyone has experience with all three carriers and can make a recommendation on the best course of action, I'd especially appreciate that advice as well.

Thanks in advance for the advice...

Flew SGN-BKK on QR a few months ago. Your assumption is correct in that there's not a 'full' service, this is because the flight is less than 1½ hours. You're served a light meal, "indulgence" in QR speak, consisting of a no-choice starter followed by a choice of light main course. A full drinks service is provided along with an amenities kit & it was the usual excellent QR experience for me.

QR are better than TG regional but I've never flown OZ. However, as good as QR are on this sector I seriously doubt they're worth the extra travel time & loss of sleep compared to your other choices, especially having heard many good reports about OZ.

Here's some extra info for you...

I would think the direct would be more benefiicial and the OZ flights at that. If you want to experience QR, in my opinion instead I'd look for a trip where you could maximize the full experience.

Thanks for the input! That trip report was super helpful and told me everything I wanted to know. I still want to try QR at some point, but it sounds like I'm better off sticking with Asiana for the convenience factor on this trip.
