Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - NYC - Shanghai redemption through Asia Miles?

Hi, I have about 92k Amex points that I need to transfer into miles before the end of this month.

I would like to book economy flights from NYC to Shanghai next year.

It seems like Asia Miles has the lowest mileage requirement at 60k on China Eastern. I just have a few questions:

What kind of fees/surcharges I would get charged for a roundtrip economy flight using this redemption?

Does the 900-some HKD surcharge apply to China Eastern flights too? Is that surcharge for one-way or roundtrip?

Is it hard to redeem trips, especially departing/arrive on weekends, through Asia Miles?

Of course if anyone knows of better redemption through other airlines I'm all ears :)

Which country is your Amex based at?

Can you transfer to BA Avios? Or any other programme?

I'm based in the US. BA requires 50k miles *one-way*!

BA constructs awards on a segment by segment basis, so you're looking at NYC-ORD/LAX/TYO/HKG-PVG, or even worse, NYC-LHR-PVG. But, if you book LAX-PVG or ORD-PVG in isolation, the price is reasonable (25k in the case of LAX and 30k in the case of ORD, iirc).

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm going to transfer my miles to Delta because even though they require 70k miles roundtrip, at least they don't gouge with the fuel surcharges.

Make sure you have seat available before you transfer.

Delta's miles is known as SkyPeso for a reason.

As thread has now gone sort of to DL's favour, I'll close it now.
