I got an email, and it looks like targeted email "Enjoy one qualifying stay at any of our 20 newest properties, and we'll reward you with 16,000 Wyndham Rewards® bonus points—enough for A FREE NIGHT!* Earn up to 3 free nights or 48,000 bonus points!
We've just opened 20 new hotels and want to invite you to celebrate with us. Simply complete one stay through October 6, 2012 and you'll earn 16,000 Wyndham Rewards points. That's enough for a free night!
Plus, as an added incentive, rates are starting at $59.99 at the new Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham hotels and $79.00 at the new Wyndham Hotels and Resorts hotels. There are many locations to choose from across the United States so book now and take advantage of this limited-time offer.
Did anyone got similar email and it provided a link to promotion, but it looks like a targeted offer
Thanks

I got this offer as well. As usual, if specific definitions are not attached to a promotion, the general definitions in a program's terms and conditions apply. Section I, part 5 provides this information about qualifying stays and rates (bolding mine):
A Qualified Stay means any number of consecutive nights (regardless of check-ins and check-outs) that a Member stays at the same Participating Hotel or Participating WH&R Property at a Qualifying Rate and which meets the other conditions included in Section II (B) below. Qualifying Rates include all rates except for the following: employee/family, travel agent, group, wholesale, package transportation/crew and other special contract rates, or free night stays. Most rates available through tour operators and travel websites (excluding Wyndham Rewards.com and the Participating Hotel Chain websites) such as Priceline, Hotwire, Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz are wholesale rates and therefore do not qualify to earn Wyndham Rewards points, airline miles or rail points. Qualifying Rates for Participating Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Wingate by Wyndham, and Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Properties include all rates except for the following: employee/family, travel agent, wholesale, package transportation/crew and other special contract rates, or free night stays. Non-qualifying rates which are specific to Participating WH&R Properties include Wyndham Vacations inventory booked through Expedia which includes another travel component such as airfare or car rental.
In this case, you earn the 16K points for a qualifying stay at one of the 20 new properties Wyndham listed in the email. That won't help me much here because the nearest property to my home is still 3 1/2 hours away and just yesterday, I booked nonrefundable rates at two Marriott properties, including one near an eligible Wyndham property in Altamonte Springs, for an upcoming trip to Orlando.

Only issue is I didn't get the email myself, does it look really targeted? Not sure if it is worth taking a chance on for the other two nights, the one night I can use anyway. I forgot to set my preferences to allow email

Indeed, I'm going to book one night, maybe two, simply instead of nights at other chains. Not overly concerned if it works for me or not since I need hotels those nights anyway and I'm nowhere near any stay bonuses or elite levels with other chains. Going to wait a day or two in case I get the email so I'll be less concerned.

The only property near me on the list is charging $150+ a night for even something like an AARP rate. I don't think I can lower it much.
Meanwhile, I can find other brands of hotels nearby for just about 1/3 of that. (That's because the new property is a Wyndham and is priced for reimbursed business travel, while there are plenty of Days Inns and Travelodges and Super 8s nearby that have way more "affordable" pricing.)
Since I have to pay for all my stays on my own dime (and never get reimbursed), overpaying by $100ish is not worth 16000 WR points to me, sorry.
(It's not like the recent Club Carlson promos where I was able to find hotels for well under $100/night at some rates and earned 44000 to 50000 CC points per one-night stays at those.)

If you're actually earning 4x points, then quite likely.
If you're earning 4x miles, though, then I'm not as sure. (And many of us are earning 4x Southwest Airlines, because it's much more valuable than 4x points.)

While I didn't get one (), looking through the list, those of you in Texas may be able to get a good rate at the Wyndham Suites Park Central. I stayed here about 2 years ago when it was the Crowne Plaza Suites (and I'm guessing an Embassy Suites a decade or two before that), and it was a fairly low price per night. All 2 room suites IIRC, that were clean yet fairly dated. Assuming they haven't gone downhill in the past two years, it's not a bad choice.
Funny thing though - you had to receive a membership into their 'private club' to drink at the hotel bar. Must have something to do with the liquor laws there.
EDIT: The Hawthorn Suites next door used to be a decent Staybridge Suites as well. Wyndham must be offering a much better deal than IHG to the owner of those properties.

IHG was not the owner before, and Wyndham is not the owner now.
Very few properties in any hotel program are actually owned by the hotel program.
What is most likely the case is that IHG instituted a new (or newly enforced) requirement for Staybridge which they didn't want to (or couldn't meet), or else they just didn't like the fees charges for the affliation. Not knowing the particular property at all, I can't say what it would be.
An example of something parallel that I do understand better, is why the Holiday Inn Express (HIX) Aneheim West became (with a short period in between as a Magnuson) a Baymont Inn & Suites. It's not in the standard HIX build with all interior corridors (it's a combination of interior and exterior corridors, with the only elevator in the exterior section) and the rooms are not in the standard HIX layout. HIX tightened up on their standards and this property, without tearing the building down and putting up another one, couldn't meet those. So they had to leave HIX. Then Baymont came along and said that as long as everything else about the hotel met their standards, it was ok to have an oddly organized building. (And the hotel is located on a street where few people are likely to physically stumble upon it -- not near any freeway exit, etc -- so they presumably feel that being in a national chain helps more with filling up rooms than it hurts with standards requirements, as long as the standards required are actually achievable.)

Well, I'm going to book my one night I can use, but won't book any mattress runs. I'll find out in about a month and a half what happens! Doesn't matter either way to me, not many other promos out there for my one night of 3 over the total of the next 3-4 months, so I'll test Wyndham's IT.

1. Does a one stay constitute an eligible stay for the promo. or must there be more than one night?
2. Is the senior citizen rate an eligible rate for the promotion?
I could not find an answer to these questions in checking the limited information I found with the promo. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place. If anyone knows these answers or can point me in the right direction, I will appreciate it.
Certainly sounds like a good deal if only one night counts as a stay.

You guys are aware of the fact that Wyndham is officially the only chain that counts no-shows as eligible for the stay credit? While it's still a good idea to give the property a good excuse and try to get checked in via phone points should post in any way.
So it's 7k miles for ~$65 - that's under one cent :)

Does the advance purchase prices count? If so - those are cheaper - some around $47 - if you move the date a couple of weeks out.
Please don't book ALL the rooms though. I actually plan on STAYING there. :)
I am planning on staying at Schaumburg one night, Hoffman Estates one night, and then Schaumburg the third night. I am assuming those will count as three separate stays for three bonuses.

This is what I see for prepaid rates. Not sure if you get bonus for no show advance purchase:
Wyndham.com Advanced Purchase rates are non-refundable and require a credit card payment in advance or the entire stay as reserved. No changes, cancellations or modifications may be made to Advanced Purchase rates. Early departures do not qualify for refund or unused portion of reservation. Reservation extensions will require a new reservation for the additional dates, subject to availability and rate changes. May not be combined with any other offers or promotions, and is not available to groups. If you fail to arrive at the hotel on scheduled arrival date, your reservation will be cancelled and you will not receive any refund or credit.

Please keep us updated,
I called them tonight, they said regular points get posted in 5 business days, and bonus points get posted 6-8 weeks.
I did my 1st stay on Saturday. Nothing has posted yet - no regular points or bonus points. This bill definitely has my rewards number on it. I am hoping that it can get posted tomorrow - mainly because I am impatient and like to see things post quickly!:D

would there be anyway to also use topcashback.com for this?
could people please post the best rates they find and for what date.
I don't think I would try going through a cash back site since the promo terms say to click through the link in the email.

I have been calling Wyndham asking them if advanced (prepaid) rates qualify for this promo. I am getting mixed answers. Some reps say yes, some say the individual hotels will have to decide. When I even call the individual hotel they dont even know there is a promo going on. Does anyone have a definite answer?
That sounds strange that the individual hotels will decide whether a rate qualifies for the promotion or not. Either advance purchase counts or it doesn't. It certainly should since the terms didn't specifically exclude it. It sounds like you got a hold of someone who just made up an answer.

In my experience that just refers to additional discounts -- like a 20% discount for weekend stays, for instance -- and means that they don't stack with that. I don't think it means you won't get promo points based on stays. But we'll find out as people's points post.

Hi guys,
I called the Wyndham DFW Suites Park Centra
7800 Alpha Road | Dallas , TX 75240 | Phone 972-233-7600 | Fax 972-788-094 yesterday and they had no idea about this promotion
The reason for my call was that I couldn't log in with my Wyndham rewards. After talking to the representative, I realized that they have two system Wyndham rewards and wyndham by Request. The Wyndham DFW Suites is using the later one. I am a little bit skeptical about how to book this hotel since this promotion seems to be strict. Should I just book it and give them my reward number when check-in or should I try to login and book it.
The representative is very helpful and I am waiting for her to call back today

So far, the general consensus seems to be that clicking through the link in the email sent by Wyndham is the only guaranteed way to get the bonus points.
To quote the T&Cs:
To qualify for the "16,000 bonus Points" promotion (the "Promotion") and earn 16,000 Wyndham Rewards® points, the member must (i) be an active member (ii) click through the email and book a stay at any of the 20 participating properties at a qualifying rate between August 6, 2012 and October 6, 2012 and complete their hotel stays by October 9, 2012 (the "Promotion Period").
So, it's not surprising that staff at the individual hotels have no idea about this promotion since it appears that Wyndham is handling this solely through website bookings originating from click throughs from the emails sent to Wyndham Rewards members.

Thanks I know that but the problem is that I can't login into my account because Wyndham has two reward systems. I wonder if I can get the points without using my Reward number and then give it to them at the hotel. It is probably unlikely

So, my regular stay has posted. What I did not realize is that my earnings preferences was set to US Airways miles, so I have 500 miles being posted to US Airways.
The 16,000 points have not posted yet.
I think that I am going to change my earnings to Delta - that is the award that I am working on. Even if the 16,000 points gets posted as Delta miles, that works fine for me!

Stayed at the new Hawthorn Suites in Altamonte Springs that is participating in this promotion. Interesting. It's a rebadged Candlewood Suites that was still part of IHG when I stayed there in late March. Will stay there again Sunday night. This property may be a very good option because, even on a Friday night, the hotel appeared no more than 40% full, thus plenty of availability with low prices. I'll provide an update when the points from this promotion post.

Another amazing offer. I am holding off on it only because it seems like the left hand is talking to the right at Wyndham. I've spoken to customer service on the phone and they seemed to think as long as I had the webpage "link" I was okay. I then sent them an email to see if they could send me the "link" and I have gotten no response. Great deal, though :)

Coming back to that Altamonte Springs property, book with the 20% off promo, and you can get a room, including tax, for a little less than $58. With the low occupancy I saw this weekend, I'd think this hotel would happily take no show bookings.

lwildernova That is where I stayed last week and will have my next 2 "stays". The occupancy was definitely low. There were probably about 20 cars in the parking lot. I would agree with you about the no shows.

If they could be either points or miles I think you would have had a line item for the miles showing 16,000 miles as the bonus. Maybe the points post later but that would be unusual for Wyndham so a good possibility is that your account must be set to points for it to post even though that isn't stated in the T&Cs of the promotion.

Although the specific T&Cs don't state that the earning preference must be set to points rather than miles, I figured that was a reasonable (but not the only reasonable) interpretation of the requirements and then decided it was better to err on the side of caution and set my preference to Wyndham points.
I don't in any way believe that Wyndham will award 16K miles in any partner program as a result of this promotion. I suspect CC will say you either earn some piddling, standard amount of miles or 16K CC points.
TravelGuy1965

Agreed but it would be nice for someone to post here that did have the 16k post. I had the same thing where mine was set to miles and the 16k didn't post with my stay as most bonus's do with Wyndham. So I'm wondering if this (mile selection) is it or not. Some promo's have allowed both in the distant past depending on where you live. The T&Cs would normally state you must be set to points in recent promotions. And this one is very odd that it doesn't.

I haven't been burned by a promotion yet, but I am concerned about how this one will work out. Although I used the link in the email Wyndham sent to me to make each reservation, there's nothing in the reservation or confirmation process to tell you that your booking has qualified for this promo.

If this is truly targeted, then you can do nothing. I have received this offer in two separate emails, however. One focused solely on this promo. The second came in a general email that mentioned a number of other offers. I might reset my account preferences in the hope of receiving another email with a link to this promotion.
Otherwise, it simply remains a targeted promotion. If you don't get this one, you'll probably get one down the line--that I don't get.

If you check different dates out be very careful when you confirm your reservation that it gives you the right date.
I thought I was reserving a room for Sept 8, but noticed when I clicked submit that it actually booked Sept 7.
I went back and re-entered Sept 8 - and the page clearly said Sept 8, but when I clicked on the button to reserve the room, it said Sept 7.
I tried Sept 9, and once again, the page stated Sept 9, but when I clicked through, it was reserving a room on Sept 7 again.
I had to close down the site and clear my cookies before it actually gave me the dates I was trying to book.

Hi Guys,
I wanted to try to get in on this promotion, as I did receive the email containing the link.
I clicked through the email and reserved a night at a qualifying hotel. I was "unable to show up" that night, 8/19, but my CC was billed. So far in my Wyndham Rewards account the stay showed up, but it was given 0 points for the stay. It has a little <information> graphic which states this was a Non-Qualified Stay. Why would this be? It certainly was a qualified stay.
So I haven't been given any points, any bonus points, or the 16000 I expected.
Anyone ever have an actual qualified stay show up as "non-qualifying"?

I received the following Tweet back from Wyndham when I asked them the question of earning miles vs. points for your stay:
"Hello, regardless of your earning preference if you qualify for the promotion you will receive 16000 points. "
So that is good news. If staying at a Wyndham Resort or Hawthorn hotel you get 500 miles per stay for most airlines, 600 with Southwest. Through September 13 you get 4x points or miles starting with your 2nd stay. If you select Southwest, this means you'll get 2,400 Southwest points, which equals $40 towards Southwest travel.

The promo said 6 to 8 weeks, I think. I've had 2 stays, one closing in on two weeks ago, and no bonus points yet.
FYI, and you probably already know this, but you can only get the bonus a max of 3 times. I'm assuming you have additional reasons for the "4 more stays", and aren't expecting a bonus for any more than the first 3.

3 for me (2 already completed) / 3 for wife...

My Mother just booked the AARP rate and was concerned that it would not qualify. She called Wyndham to confirm that it was an eligible rate. The CSR said that the rate was eligible to earn points. If it is eligible to earn points, it should qualify for the 16,000 point bonus.

I don't trust that Wyndham CSRs have any clue what's going on.

I payed $78 for a stay at hoffman estates sdn followed the email link.
received 395 points instead of 10x points, anyone else see this?
No stay has posted also towards my 4x summer promo, does it just not update very quickly. Or can we not double dip?
Are we eligible for the 1000 pt promo for going to a new hotel ?

I would think it would qualify. I have received points, and qualified for other promotions, for stays in which I paid AARP or Government rates. So they should count as qualifying rates for the promotion.

Another data point at HAWTHORN SUITES BY WYNDHAM ORLANDO ALTAMONTE SPRINGS:
Booked a STATE Gov Rate (I'm a state employee) on 8/31 and did a no-show, had my point earning preference set to United Miles, the stay was posted on 9/1 with 0 points with a notation that it is a non-qualifying rate. I have checked my United account and no mile from the hotel has been posted. Prior to this, I have inquired if STATE GOV rate qualifies for points and promo points earning, and the answer given (by both hotel and Wyndham CSR) is "Yes". I called the hotel to inquire the "non-qualifying stay" notation, and was told to call Wyndham Rewards. They confirmed that all GOV rates are qualifying rates.
So I will have to call Wyndham Rewards tomorrow (they are closed for Labor Day) to sort out this issue...

Wyndham created unnecessary uncertainty about this promo that could have been simply solved by requiring registration or providing some confirmation upon booking that you've booked a qualifying rate. I'll probably do a third booking, to reach the maximum bonus, but I'm starting to sense that their promotions department may have fumbled here. I'm sure they think they have a way of proving that you booked through the email link, but how does a customer know that his booking has qualified?

It is rare to see Wyndham properties which follow their own no-show policy. Wyndham Customer Service may ask you hotel bill, so be prepare it before calling/claiming. They usually don't deny your request.

I thought I booked a stay for this weekend but accidentally put Last Friday as check in date. :( I just found out this morning when I tried to modify my stay. This is a regular rate so I think I am going to be charged for no-show. Strangely, Wyndham listed my stay as non-qualified and $0.00 charged for the room. I have not seen any charges on my credit card yet.

Another data point for ALTAMONTE SPRINGS in Orlando.
I booked two rooms on 08/29 (one in my name, one in my wife's name) at the 15% discount rate ($61.31 total per room). Since I was in Orlando at the time, we actually checked in (and left 15 minutes later from the side exit). My card was charged on 08/30, transaction posted on 08/31, and 277 points are shown on Wyndham Rewards site for both our accounts.
I also booked a single room on 08/31 in my name, again at the 15% discount rate ($61.31 total), but this time I was lazy and didn't bother going to check in. My card was charged on 09/01, transaction posted on 09/03, but 0 points are shown on Wyndham Rewards site, with the explanation that it was a non-qualifying rate.
Since my credit card was actually charged for this second stay, any thoughts about whether I'd still get the 16k deal? Or should I call Wyndham to ask why it was a non-qualifying rate? (I assume the answer would be related to this being a phantom stay.)

After a 25 minute call to Wyndham Rewards, my no-show at Altamonte Springs seems to be sorted out. Here is how the call went:
1) Were you part of a group?
No
[put on hold]
2) You called the hotel to cancel?
No, and my credit card has been charged
[put on hold]
3) Let me call the front desk
[put on hold]
4) Front Desk said this was a no-show
Yes, I had planned to stay, but my plans changed at the last minute
5) Ok, I will go ahead and add the points to your account, which will take 3 business days to appear
I was ready to quote the T&C (II.B.8: "If the property requires a credit card for a reservation, the Member is a no-show, and the hotel charges his/her credit card for the first night of the no-show stay, the Member will receive points for such night as if he/she had stayed.") but I didn't even need to :)

Sorry for the confusion. The email for the free night on us promotion was sent to our US members who had opted to receive email extras from Wyndham Rewards. To qualify for this promotion the reservations need to be booked through the link included in the email.
Again, what about those of us U.S. members that opted to receive email extras but did not receive an email? I was provided this reply from customer service. Am I out of luck?
[same as other received above]
If this is truly targeted, then you can do nothing. I have received this offer in two separate emails, however. One focused solely on this promo. The second came in a general email that mentioned a number of other offers. I might reset my account preferences in the hope of receiving another email with a link to this promotion.
Otherwise, it simply remains a targeted promotion. If you don't get this one, you'll probably get one down the line--that I don't get.
So if it was targeted, it was targeted to me since I am a US member who had opted to receive email extras from Wyndham Rewards.
The poster who mentioned UA hit the nail on the head.
I am always looking to expand my hotel options. A promo like this is a way to suck me in - like the way 1 free Hyatt night turned me into a multi-year Diamond member. From 0 to 25+ stays a year all because of one really good free night. Wyndham doesn't get the chance to win my business now because I don't get to play :(

I checked their website and it doesn't make any distinction on points earned among their different properties. It still says, "For every dollar you spend, 10 Wyndham Rewards points will be yours to keep."
Besides, why would they give 10 points per dollar spent in low-end properties like Super 8 but only 5 points for more expensive properties like Hawthorne? How does that policy even make sense?

The reason you earn 5 points at Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham is because it is an extended stay location. The follow is from the terms and conditions.
Wyndham Rewards Members staying at a Participating Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham at a Qualified Rate are eligible to receive either:
(a) Wyndham Rewards Points - 5 Wyndham Rewards points per U.S. $1.00 spent, or

While on the phone, I mentioned that I booked through the email and asked the CSR to confirm that my booking qualified for the free night promotion. She said there was no way for her to confirm it, and I would have to wait until the promotion is over for the bonus points because only then will WR be able to determine which reservations were made through the email.
I used Salt Lake for my other two stays (~$56 all in per night) and they both posted with no issues. I already got 5400 RR points and expect 48k WR points out of this deal and the 4x promotion, so about $470 in value. Not bad for ~$165 outlay.

I had to call and get Hoffman Estates and Altamonte Springs to manually post as well. The CSR had no problems with it - just told me that it would take 72 hours. I also asked for confirmation that I would receive the 16,000 points and all she could tell me is that as long as I booked through the link on the email that I would receive the 16,000 points. As I've mentioned before, this is the one aspect of this promotion that concerns me. You are never given any confirmation during the booking process that your stay qualifies for the promotion. And, although I don't generally have a problem when points take time to post, the six to eight weeks they're promising here, which is also fine with me normally, means that there's no way to confirm the earning until this promo is over.
I foresee a lot of gripes at the end of this campaign.

Mine is not quite that bad - only $170. I am at 5 weeks since my first reservation, so I have 1-3 weeks to go before the points should post.

Of course there is a chance knowing how good these guys are at implementing rules correctly but not sure if I'd be wanting to spend money on just a chance!

My 16K points for stay #1 (8/24 Meriden CT) posted today. For reference, I did get the targeted email and did physically check in and stay at the hotel. Was holding off on booking the 2 other stays until I was sure these points would post.

They were running a special 4x points or miles. Normally 500 per night so he got 500 his first stay then 2000 each for his next two stays. Nice.

My points for the two stays in Altamonte Springs posted tonight as well. Combined with some leftover points from last year's Daily Getaways promotion, I had enough to book a room for three nights at the Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown. That'll save $750 for a hotel room I had already booked on a cancelable rate. My out of pocket cost for the points--less than $200. I'll do a third night in this promotion at a hotel in Raleigh to boost my point total back up.
Wyndham came through on this promotion so maybe not so many gripes after all.

Does Triple AAA rate qualify for this promotion? I have a stay in Nebraska I can direct towards this promo but want to make sure if I use my discount I will still get the points.

I also got all 3 of my 16K points bonuses.
However, still have not received any of my 4x summer promotion points for stays #2 and #3. The promotion no longer shows up under "my promotions" either, so I'm guessing it's now going to be a fight to get those.
^to Wyndham on the 16K promotion posting perfectly and in a reasonable amount of time.

Still radio silence from Wyndham about screwing this up for those of us "US members who had opted to receive email extras from Wyndham Rewards". Further, Wyndham's email customer service has gone dry too after I cut and pasted your first quote from this thread into an email [and supplied the link]. It really is UAdba Wyndham - except that even UA comes back and leaves messages or PMs FTers.
But we do know about earning 5 points per dollar spent. And that others have had bonus points posted. [venting because I should have been eligible  - I'll get over it :D]
Sorry for the confusion. The email for the free night on us promotion was sent to our US members who had opted to receive email extras from Wyndham Rewards. To qualify for this promotion the reservations need to be booked through the link included in the email.
$1.00 spent, or
(b) Airline miles

I called and tried to check in over phone but they wouldn't let me. They charged my card and for two stays (Salt Lake) the points posted without further inquiry. One "stay" at Hoffman Estates didn't post and I had to call WR to get it manually posted.

Did anyone get points that used the FT link and didn't get the e-mail? I wanted to book again this weekend but not if I'm not going to get the points. My stay points from my last (Sept. 5th) stay have posted but no 16000 bonus. I'd rather spend my money on the Marriott promo if there is no chance of getting the 16000 bonus points.

Did Wyndham change their airline redemption recently? I thought that 16000 wyndham points could be redeemed as 4000 airline points. When i went to redeem it now says: 8000 wyndham points = 3200 airline points. 17000 wyndham points = 7000 airline points.
this is disappointing.

You should be able to change the quantity of redemptions, so that 16000 wyndham points = 2 sets of 3200 miles. So, it's actually way better for you than you thought! (6400 vs 4000 miles)
