No, normally the qualifier is "operated and marketed" by the carrier for AAdvantage. When the flight is not on the marketed (ticketed) carrier, and the operating carrier is not a Oneworld carrier, it won't be eligible unless the marketing carrier is AA itself. I'm on my phone so I can't look at the details until late but that is what I believe is true.

For the LX operated flights, the rules for crediting that flight to most Star Alliance accounts are based on LX being the operator and the marketing carrier doesn't make a difference.

find your reservation on AA.com using one of the El Al flight numbers and that should pull it up.. then on AA.com, you can add your AA mileage # along with passport, etc.

It's prohibiting you from flying on El Al's nonstop JFK-TLV flight; if you want to fly NYC-TLV on this fare, it essentially requires you to take a connection in Zurich, Madrid, London, or Paris, with the transatlantic segment on an airline other than El Al.

So glad I got to snag this one. Booked 12/6-14 for my parents and I. $400 was our price (there was a 12/15 return for $350 but it left at 5:30AM ugh). First trip to Israel!
I am still new to booking mistake/cheap/whatever fares. Two years ago I did a JFK-BCN for around $220 I believe. Last year it was JFK-BRU with crimson12 and a few other friends for $250. I think this the best deal yet.

Yes it is. In the last couple of months I booked:
Business class award flight to australia.
The BA 25,000 avios TATL flight (which now seems like a waste...).
Singapore Airlines business on the A345 and A388.
The Hong Kong 4 miler.
A FD flight to Europe.
And now the TLV fare.
I REALLY need to take a break from FT:)

I checked fares on UA/US/AA/DL to see if others had similar low fares about 2-3h ago and now it seems the G and N fares LY filed have been matched by UA (and A+ ie LH/OS/AC/LX) in L & T.
Sadly the YQ is atrocious, so unless you do a fuel dump the fare is unusable:

As for hotels in Israel, yes... expensive. I think Israel is one place where using points really gets you the most in terms of savings. That's not to say the hotels are all WORTH their high prices in terms of their quality, but in terms of money not leaving your pocket, using points is well worth it.

I booked on Travelocity and my confirmation email had an eticket number issued on El Al stock (114). If you have a ticket, ignore the call and file a DoT complaint. You could file a DoT complaint.
Use 399.88 as guidance: (“Therefore, if a consumer purchases a fare and that consumer receives confirmation (such as a confirmation email and/or the purchase appears on their credit card statement or online account summary) of their purchase, then the seller of air transportation cannot increase the price of that air transportation to that consumer, even when the fare is a “mistake.”)
Please visit this site: http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/escomplaint/es.cfm if you want to file a complaint.
Also, since it seems that UA filed a similar fare, I wouldn't consider this a mistake fare....

I'm guessing it is because of 1. New DOT rules 2. While low, maybe even losing money low, $350-450 RT is not insanely low, and it seems most of the bookings were in what I assume to be lower travel seasons. If it were something stupid low, like under $100, it might be different.

Totally agree that those factors are in passengers' favor. It is definitely off-season from mid-Oct to mid-March... that period is sandwiched right between (but not including) all the major holidays that draws travelers inbound and outbound, plus there isn't the family and student travel that there is in the summertime.
Considering the season, a butt in seat for that price may be worth it to them w/o a fight since the plane is going anyway.

Yeah, the crazy thing is that I'm happy I missed out on it and that it put TLV on my radar screen. No worries, you did it the right way. Some fares are so good that it doesn't matter that you earn miles from them. I posted a $208 BOS-LIS (Lisbon, Portugal) not too long ago that I assumed wouldn't earn miles, but it deserved a separate thread, just like this did. I'm not going to pay $900+ just to earn miles, give me $430 and no miles any day of the week (we're even getting 50% RDMs credited to AA anyway!).
Definitely more than 3.82 cpm, I think, as it only earns 50% RDM (unless something goes horribly wrong ;))

for the dates I was looking at in '12 & '13 it was $342 ai taxes were $168
a fare of $174 to be divided up by 3 different carriers that wouldnt even cover any of the costs of getting me there and back. cant see AA willing to take even the whole $174 for JFK-ZRH & LHR-JFK do you? Try another agent. Try during midnight when the EXP desk is more calm. If anything, try the day of departure at the AA counter, Admirals Club, and last resort, the gate agent.

Yeah I once had luck upgrading on a LA-coded flight with the ticketing agent on the day of flight. I'll probably try a couple times between now and then. Any thoughts as to whether I should wait if and until C inventory becomes available?

he call and file a DoT complaint.
Actually I have no ticket # I looked in my e-mail and directly on El Al. My card was charged. Would just the charge support the complaint?
Yes. "A purchase is deemed to have occurred when the full amount agreed upon has been paid by the consumer." See 49 U.S.C. 41712 § 399.88(a)

I booked 3 sets of tickets by cheapoair.com, but on 1 res I made a mistake with the CC #, the ticket is booked, how can I make sure it will not cancel? (cheapoair.com said they can't change the CC)
Can I credit the AA segments to BA? Which fare class are they? Can I upgrade the tickets?

I lean towards 0 (since marketed by a non-*A carrier) unless crediting to Miles & More, where I still lean towards 0 as there is nothing listing El Al as a partner airline despite the obvious codeshare agreement.

I thought the metal was the ultimate decision if something earns miles or not. If one is flying LX, than it should credit. I would ask to but your number on check in. But of course, the fare itself may be too low to earn ny miles at all.

For those who bought these TLV tickets with plans for nested tickets to/from India on these itineraries, April/May is amongst the worst times to go to most of India -- I consider May to be the worst time.
This is where the real fun begins. :D We've been to Israel before. I wouldn't mind going to IST for a few days, and Star Alliance has 35,000 mile roundtrip coach tix available for the short 2 hour flight. They also have routings via Vienna, with a long enough layover to get a sacher torte. ;) My wife told me not to go there, since we can get plenty of delicious sweets in Israel. :p
We have enough time to play with various ideas for nested trips.

EXP: Sure, it is ... XXXXX
Result: Sure enough, I looked up the record locator and was able to add my AA FF# all on www.aa.com

ME "Hi, I would like for my girlfriend to sit next to me in the EXIT row, she's on a different PNR (gives her the PNR)"
EXP: "Sorry, I can not make any changes to the EL AL itinerary as you will need to contact them"
Conclusion: That wasn't the answer I was looking for, so I hung up and called again

EXP: "Sure, I can do that for you.. looks like you're sitting in an EXIT row, would you like for her to sit next to you?"
ME: "Yes, please, on the outbound and the return flight as well. If you could please link the PNR's together, that would be great as well"
EXP: "Not a problem, it is all done.."
Conclusion: If you don't get the right answer the first time, hang up and call again. Thus, I was successful in securing EXIT row seats because of my status and my gf (no status) will get to get next to me.

found my record locator number, picked seats!!!
What do you think El Al is going to want to add a Lap infant?
My brother added a lap infant to his reservation at the time of ticketing. The fee for the infant was $93.40 ($24 for the ticket price + $69.40 in taxes/fees). His routing is ORD-CDG-TLV and back.
Not sure what LY would charge now that the mistake has been fixed. I assume they'll want to charge 10% of the CURRENT price + taxes and fees. Note that the $24 ticket fee that my brother paid was 10% of the adult ticket base price.

With Star Alliance it is indeed the metal that is the basis for whether a flight earns miles or not.
LX flight with an LY code will credit to Star Alliance programs under the rules applicable to LX metal flights. So if you are booked into an LX booking code that earns miles in your Star Alliance program of choice it will generally earn miles regardless of whether or not the marketing carrier (e.g. LY) is a partner in the Star Alliance program of your choice.

TLV is well located in regard to how it gets zoned by various frequent flyer programs, making for some rather well-priced arbitrage-type deals (in miles) for trips to places in whatever region (or even some regions beyond) TLV is located for purposes of a given frequent flyer program.
Either as part of nested trips, as part of de facto one-way trips, or to visit Israel, this has been a spectacular deal ..... even if it is just in coach.

log on to aa.com. go to your trips. go to "find reservation". type in your name and one of the aa flights you will be on. your reservation will come up. by doing so I can now see that I am booked into G class (according to AA record locator, not El Al's record locator), which would earn 50% on AA. So, you better double check. Should be the same for all of us.

oh sorry, i got confused in my earlier post:
yes, it is N class on AA (according to AA record locator).
however, the marketing carrier (El Al) rules.
according to El Al's record locator, AA flights booked into G.
G will earn 50% with El Al marketed flights on AA according to AA.com
so, expect 50% credit on AA.
(it is different with Star Alliance. Over there, the operating carrier rules wihich would be AA in our case. Unfortunately, it is Oneworld, not Star.)

LY probably should have its own insurance too. When airlines rely upon fuel surcharges that are a huge proportion of a ticket price, I don't shed a tear for them when they end up in a situation like this.

Most folks on FT would agree 100% with you, there are some others that maybe wouldnt want to cause any monetary damages to ElAl. that most likely will affect not many here on FT who see no difference between LY from SQ,AA,UA,BA etc etc and I fully understand that

Sorry to disappoint you.
Your ticket was issued on El Al ticket stock - no matter, if your AAdvantage number is attached or not. The AAdvantage number only means that your miles will go to AAdvantage and not to El Al's frequent flyer program. The number of miles however is determined by the fact that your ticket was issued by El Al and your AA flights were sold with El Al flight numbers. Go to aa.com, and look up the chart for earning miles on El Al. It tells you, booking into G means 50% (the operating carrier does not matter!!!). If you don't believe me, call AA.
