Emirates Skywards - Using miles to 'buy' lounge access?

I don't have any EK status (silver dropped to blue) and I'm flying economy but have miles. I have a 4 hour layover at SYD between EK flights, and would love to get into the lounge. There are two of us travelling. Anyway I can use miles for one-off lounge access?
I dont think EK allows access to their lounges by paying for it by cash or through miles. You either have to be Silver/Gold with Skywards or flying J/F class.
Have you looked for any other lounge at Sydney airport which may allow paid access ? There might be one, like the Marhaba lounge at DXB. Perhaps someone more familiar with Sydney airport can help here
You would need to cough up the miles required for an upgrade to J, no other way to use miles for lounge access.

Thanks for the clarifications. I have enough miles to upgrade to J for the incoming leg (i.e. to SYD) - but would be economy leaving SYD. Would that get me access or do I need to be in J on the outgoing flight?

Lounge access is specifically for onward flights in J/F or Gold Skywards members. Whether lounge staff at SYD enforce this rule, not sure.
You say you have enough miles to upgrade the inbound but not the outbound. Are they showing as separate sectors on your booking?

Not sure about there but some of those Travel Clubs you can join have those pass cards good at many airports worldwide and you only pay $25 for each use. I used one at KAL lounge a few times in Tokyo and it worked great

They do. Eligible passengers are on a list and they tick you off as you enter the lounge.

+1 Happened to me in MEL and the list was short

I knew about the list, but say you're gold travelling in J/F and decided to take in a colleague who was in Y, they won't have his name on the list but should be granted access.
You know, the OP might want to try finding someone on the flight, transiting through SYD, who's gold travelling in J or F who would be willing to guest him/her in.

Thanks for the updates. Doesn't look like it will happen. I doubt I will find two people to guest both of us in, and I'm not sure I want to be going asking. I don't think I want to go the priority pass / travel club route, unless there are some good deals currently.
