So ... my annual fee of $85 was just assessed. Two questions:

1) When will my Cat 5 certificate occur? With the closing of this statement?

2) Are people having luck with the retention department in asking them to waive the fee?

Thanks!

1) soon......
2) why should they waive the fee?

Because there is so much competition now and it can't hurt to ask. Citi did with my AA card.

There is the primary thread where people discuss Chase Retention. I called in to close, no success to get any retention the first time. So I closed it. But after two weeks the account remained open, so I called again and was offered to spend 1K to get Cat 4 certificate, I accepted. The agent told this sort of offer comes and goes and it was possible when I tried to close two weeks prior, the offer wasn't there.

Just a quick update. Not the strongest offer, but on the 3rd time I called, I received an offer to earn 5,000 points after making 15 purchases in 90 days. Better than nothing ...
