Caribbean - Car rental in Barbados - safe?

I've read that renting a car in Barbados can be sketchy. Any advice and/or reputable places to rent from?

Sketchy in what sense? There are plenty of car rental outfits in Barbados - - all of the larger (local) ones are legit. Stoutes is one that is often recommended, but you can find better prices. I recently used Regency, which was much cheaper and the car, although a bit tired, was adequate for my needs.

I usually use Coconut Car Rentals. Never had a problem with them so far.

My family owns a home on the island and we go 4-5 times a year. We always use Drive-A-Matic Car Rentals (http://www.carhire.tv). 1-246-422-3000. Fantastic Caribbean company; great (new) vehicles, very reliable, efficient service. Many different types of vehicles available.

Tip: Book your vehicle about 1 month in advance during peak season (mid-December through the end of April)

Been there over 6 times and never had an issue with car rentals just staying on the correct side of the road. Stoutes is who I have used except for last year I booked through thrifty I beleive which turned out to be Stoutes in disguise.
