Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Does joining KF for the purpose of redeeming a FC award make snese?

As a US based flyer who earns miles domestically, I have never thought of joining KrisFlyer but the recent award snafu opened my eyes. KrisFlyer is a partner of both AMEX MR and *wood therefore there are a lot of transfer possibilities.

The goal here would be to travel in SQ FC on an award ticket. Using any *A partner, this would be difficult. However, we know that SQ gives their own members much greater availability. Is that availability as wide open as the recent snafu? If so, then using miles within KrisFlyer would say it is much easier to get a FC award ticket.

I have not dissected the SQ award chart but I have to think that this may make sense in some circumstances.

Has anyone made this jump or does it not make sense?

Yes it does make sense assuming you can transfer miles at 1-to-1. Keep in mind that SQ does not release saver F awards in suites (A380) even to their own members and saver F awards are still scarce on other aircraft. The award chart for saver awards in any class are generally higher than other *A programs but if you book online (SQ flight itineraries only) you get a 15% discount on the miles required. Also, note that SQ charges very high taxes (i.e. fuel surcharges) compared to US based *A (or OW) airlines.

Even considering the above - I use KF myself as yet another alternative for securing award seats. Ex-OZ to Europe is one of the better value awards using KF miles on SQ only flights.

I also thought of this as well and signed up for a KF account. With the discount, I believe a US-HKG/SIN is 127,500 miles in Saver F and for most non peak times, I saw seats available...even a smattering of F seats for around (145k?-est). The best I can do currently on AC Aeroplan is 125k J and 175k F and KF has better avail on their own SQ metal...

This is my plan as well, as AMEX transfers at 1:1 to both KF and Aeroplan.

Edit, the taxes were also wer around 300-400 dollars, versus Aeroplans <100 dollars. A premium that is well worth it in my mind.
