Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Alaska ticket booked via Delta Skymiles question

Looking to use my Skymiles to book a ticket that codeshares with Alaska Airlines for LAX to YVR.

1. Since you can't pre-select seats on award tickets, does anyone know if I can choose my seat after booking via Alaska directly? Or will they deny that because it's a Delta ticket?

2. Similarly, will my ticket be eligible for Last Minute Upgrade to First Class on Alaska the day of the flight?

After you've booked your ticket, get the AS confirmation number. You will be able to select your seats on alaskaair.com.

You will not be eligible for or offered a day-of-departure upgrade online or at the ticket counter. If there are still F seats available ~1 hour prior to departure and the GA is selling them at the gate, you may be able to pay to upgrade there.

1. If you contact AS directly and give them your flight details, they can look up your AS confirmation number. From there you can go straight to alaskaair.com and choose your seats.

2. I would try and do online check-in directly with your AS conf number (avoiding DL altogether). My DW (non-MVP) has been offered last-minute paid upgrades both at the time of online check-in and at the airport when flying on award tickets. Mind you, those were AS awards, not DL awards so YMMV.

I usually tweet @DeltaAssist with my DL confirmation number and ask them to give me the AS number. Then they call AS (I'm not kidding!) and get it for me.

I didn't have the option to change seats online at AlaskaAir.com but the phone rep did it for me.

The AS confirmation number is actually in all DL reservations, in the "OSI" information. Many agents just don't realize that though.
