United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - My United travel: struggles connecting through ORD and IAD; performs well thru IAH

Based on demonstrated performance for my travels, I am inclined to avoid ORD and IAD.

Wondering if there are better times of day to plan connections when traveling thru ORD or IAD?

IAH and DEN have been good

My base is CLE

It would probably help if you were to say WHY you want to avoid them?

Missed connections? Size of the terminal? Delays? Missed upgrades? Lack of good food options?

Odd- I don't mind ORD at all. IAH sucks and so does IAD... it is just IAD.

DEN is great, except CO keeps minimizing it.

Earlier is better, no matter what the airport.

+1. For me the only issue at Ord is weather, avoid it in the winter but otherwise it's pretty easy to connect and there are decent food options.

I find IAD and IAH confusing - meaning I can't just go to my gate without looking at the signs. Maybe I have not travelled through them often enough. (Actually IAH many times but still don't know by heart which concourse has which gates.)

IAH is just massive. CO is in all the terminals - and you have to take a train between them.

ORD T2 can be a little crowded and many outside gates - nothing like DL's commuter operations in DTW or MSP. It gets ugly in bad weather.

IAH, CLE are the easiest. DEN is easy, but I don't like the airport. IAD is terrible, and ORD is "fine" but I've had bad weather delays almost every time I've flown though. EWR is great as long as you are only connecting through C.

If you are based in CLE, you probably only have United Express to IAD and ORD, which explains why IAH (mainline) is more reliable for you ...

UA flies both mainline and express between CLE and ORD.

You're right - 2 of the 14 are mainline.

I hear people complain about ORD all the time but I have never had issues there other than weather related.

I avoid IAD and EWR at all cost, especially EWR.
