US Airways Dividend Miles - Error! Error! and how to make a successful booking change

So, here I am finally booking my flight home from Germany. I had been planning it for a few weeks and now I am ready to make the booking firm. I go through the procedure of entering the airport codes "From" and "To" ... the normal selection comes up, I click on Book It Now and do so. I print out my reservation. All is done.
OH! Wait! somehow the airport selection is NOT what had originally come up on the screen! Now I am booked to a different selection of cities. The "From" and "To" are OK but the one stop is NOT the stop I wished to make and the connection time is really short!
I have now written to reservations to hopefully make a change but how likely am I to get this change made without problems?

Fortunately, I guess, I have 2 months before flight time (14 Oct) to see if I can get this sorted out.

Will Reservations take pity on me?

I am flying Envoy all the way.

I thought US now allowed you to cancel 24 hours after reservation...

Not sure about that. I'll try that but in the mean time perhaps Reservations will also have a solution?

Yes this works just fine. I successfully cancelled a ticket within the 24-hour window and was refunded almost immediately even though they said it might take a few days.

You can also use that window to change the reservation without penalty, presumably with the same fares still available. I was able to move up to an earlier flight no problem a while back.

You must however call that 800 number, you cannot do it online. If you cancel online you will not be refunded, at this point their systems don't know to refund re the 24-hour window.

Success! I called the number and spoke with Mary.:-: She was very pleasant and had me hold for a few minutes. I am sure she was questioning a supervisor. All was changed to the new itinerary without charge. No cancellation necessary and then re-booking. ^

I had booked this flight on Friday evening so it was, in fact, more then the 24 hour window but US Air came through. I am pleased to pass this on to our FlyerTalk community.

And thanks to this community I got the right number to call and for that too I am grateful. :-:

US has always changed tickets for me within the 24 hour window without a change fee (restricted tix only) or a call center charge. Then if there's a fare difference, they just charge me the difference.

Much better than having to cancel the ticket and work thru that mess.
