US Airways Dividend Miles - UA to US connection in PHX, 1.5 hrs?

Hi all,

United's flight cancellation brought about an itinerary change. My parents were originally booked on UA to travel IAH-LAX-PDX, but then today I got an email saying that there has been a schedule change and have been put on IAH-PHX by UA and PHX-PDX by US with a connection time of 1.5 hrs. I am aware that they would need to take the shuttle bus from T2 to T4 in PHX and go through security once again. Has anybody had this experience before? Is it too risky?

Thank you very much for your inputs in advance.

Regards,
Mick

Since it is due to a cxl, I'd try to get them on US IAH-PHX-PDX so they don't have to deal with it.

Otherwise, there's tons of info on this (and several other examples) in the Guide to PHX thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/us-airways-dividend-miles/960712-us-guide-phx-phoenix-airport.html

Bottom line, it is probably possible. I'd go straight from plane to shuttle to security to gate and not stop anywhere in between, unless a restroom break is absolutely necessary.
But I would rather not do this.

They should be ok as long as no incoming delays.

On another note, my parents are TG*G, so they could use priority security line. That should be able to save them a bit of time, right?

This is not a 90-min connection, it's 1:15. If the PHX-PDX is overbooked and OP's parents aren't at the departure gate by T-15, US will give their seats away to avoid an IDB/VDB.

This is doable, but tight and, as others say, do not stop -- keep moving.

Premium security @ PHX often not better than standard. I would still call and get them onto the UA-UA connection.

I think you mean the US-US connection?

If it is 90 minutes then it's doable, anything less than that then it's very chancy, considering:
15 minutes to disembark and be at the curb @ terminal 2. Unless seated in 1st.
20 minutes for waiting for the bus and be at terminal 4. Your parents could get a cab as to avoiding waiting for the bus.
25+ minutes to walk to a security checkpoint (A, B) and to clear security and to be at the gate.

Even if your parents do not have carry on luggages and are very fit, this is just too tight to be comfortable. I am sure I would not let my parents do it.

I had the misfortune of doing a UA to US connection 2 years ago in summertime in PHX. The UA flight was delayed and my 1.5 hour connection went to 30 minutes. I got there in about 25, which was after the door closed. I was drenched in sweat. They took mercy and reopened the door -- I said "I made it all the way from UA (terminal.. whatever) in 25 minutes -- that has to be worth something. Evidently the captain agreed!

I'd second the suggestion that you try to stay on US -- all in the US terminal in PHX, which is huge. Even with the moving sidewalks, it takes a while to get around.

After another hour plus on the phone with UA today, I managed to reroute for my parents to IAH-SEA-PDX, all on UA. Thank you very much everyone for your input.

A30 to B28 takes, at the most, 10 minutes.
