There are a lot of rumours that HongKong airlines are pulling out of LGW from September. Does anyone know anything more concrete on this? I am booked later in the year will they offer refunds or replacement flights.

I would say pretty low. If you file in a complaint in HK, you're going up against a government that is known to be extremely pro business. Whereas, I doubt HX cares a great deal about the opinions of the UK government since it is unlikely to fly there again in the near future, if at all. Furthermore, it's well known that HX is extremely low on cash. I predict that HNA will step in and save them at some point, but not until after the dust settles.

It's not about pro-business but rather this is what's been done in the past. When an airline can not fulfill the "agreement/contract" to transport passenger from point A to B, they issue full refunds, and they don't do "replacement flight".

What was the precedent with Oasis?

What was the precedent with Oasis?

The situation is different: Oasis went bankrupt, HKA will still exist and fly - just ceases a route...

HK have pulled out of other airports - does anyone know if they offer replacement flights on other carriers :td:or just refunds. I wonder when they will confirm the rumour (or not)

BA/CX/VS charge far more for HKG-LON in biz than HX, and I'm assuming you knew this when you bought your ticket; it matters not whether or not you think HX is on par with the rest; this is simple market economics; for whatever reason, BA/CX/VS are/were able to collect a premium.

That having been said, if the CX J fare from HKG to LON on your chosen date was $x, and now it's $y (y>x), I think it would be just if you compelled them to book you on CX in exchange for the difference between the fare you paid and x, while they take care of the difference between x and y.

I was never much good at maths

Rumoured to end 3 September http://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=20261092...waiting for HX itself to confirm it.

Probably just refund, even from the UK side http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?pageid=12765

HX has always been mismanaged. Suddenly pulling out (e.g. SVO, SIN) after 'testing' the market for a year or so is not uncommon, they don't seem to do their homework beforehand.

Possibly if you insist, they *might* book you on some of the alternatives. When AirAsia X scrapped their LGW flight, they rebooked passengers on Malaysia Airlines - but they're closely related so that might be the reason why.

Not surprising as an all J route that can't be filled by upgraders.
The other thing that would kill this route for me is that there's no way to avoid APD as even on company $$$ I help my company by always flying out of AMS/PAR.

You do not pay APD on transfers. Only if you are LEAVING the UK and the UK is your origin.

Anyway your company must be mean. Mine does not batter an eyelid. I just put it on expenses and they pay up.
And also the BA/LHR option can be a lot cheaper than AMS, CDG, FRA etc

Yesterday I read online that Hong Kong Airlines engine didn't work in one of their flights... I was about to blog that news online, but it seems that this news has already been removed. (everything under control here!)
