United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Can I route IAD-NRT (destination), NRT-MAD(stop/jaw for one month)-BCN-IAD?
Asking before I get too crazy with the planning:
Can I route IAD-NRT (destination), NRT-MAD(stop/jaw for one month)-BCN-IAD?
Alternatively, shouldn't IAD-NRT(dest), NRT-MAD(stop)-IAD be legal?
Thanks.

You CAN book IAD-NRT (dest), NRT-MAD(stop) MAD-IAD. That's fine but you can't book into MAD and out of BCN (according to the rules though you may find an agent to do this
Where you will most likely have a problem is if you fly IAD-NRT non stop or via the Pacific. They then can look at this as a RTW which is not allowed. You will need to fly IAD-NRT via the Atlantic (but the good news is you can fly LH all the way and the flight from FRA-NRT is on the 380)

Short answer: if you're willing to pay for it. ;)

Hm. Alright, thanks. Part of the allure to the Japan stop is that routing via Asia on the outbound opens up a lot of interesting (to me) opportunities that just don't exist via Europe. I can't say I'm crazy about taking a double red-eye (via Europe) to NRT for just a 4-day stop. Might just skip Japan and do a more conventional European trip.
