I'm looking to take a vacation for about 6 days or so with a friend in October. I'm looking for a great Marriott to stay at for a birthday celebration and will be using points for the stay. Suggestions on ones to go to would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was just looking at that one! Have you stayed there? What was it like?

RC San Juan is certainly among my favorite close by.

If you are willing to bend on the whole sunbathing part the RC Half Moon Bay is awesome, though you won't get much of a tan nor is there a "real" beach.

The RC Bali is also amazing, but a bit longer of a flight.

In Florida, I'd go with Marco island, harbor beach or Eden roc.

It may be too late in the season, but wentworth by the sea is a good choice

Ritz in Naples or grand cayman can't be beat.

Renaissance Phuket or JW Khao Lak

In Florida, the Harbor Beach Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale is one of my favorite Marriott's anywhere. Its on a great stretch of beach, has a very nice pool, spa, etc. And I've always received great service there.

Depending on how many points you have to use, the Cayman RC is spectacular and on the best part of 7-mile beach.

Eden Roc Miami Beach

Get a room in their Ocean Tower. Amazing views + all rooms in the ocean tower have balconies.

If you're an Elite member, they really take care of Plats with upgrades. One of the most generous properties in my experience.

is this hotel still standing (next to the Fountainbleu)................ I remember this place when it was home to the TV show Surfside 6 and that was back in the stone age!

LoL yep, still standing! They 'remodeled' the original tower + added a new Ocean tower back in 2009/2010 I believe.

Isn't Scrub Island the place people have been going to for diving? Do a search - I think that's the one.

Can you still use this if paying with points?

under what rock do they find these posters!!!!!!!!!!!!!
unless the specific property is running a local promotion regarding a 5 for 4, the only way to get a 5 for 4 is with points!

FT has been getting a reputation for being unfriendly and this is an example of why.

Your point that to get the 5th night free is available only using points, unless a property has a local promotion is valid.

But the harsh editorializing was not needed. You've been on FT & while & could be a positive resource for others!

Cheers.

sorry to disagree, but anyone on FT for 3-years already knows (or should know by now) that the 5th night free offer is extended only to use of points (unless that prop is running a local 5 for 4 promo) so IMO, they been under a rock, taken to Mars by aliens, or been in the "big house" assigned to solitary...........

There is a dive shop on property at the Scrub Island resort. The dive boat carrived everyday I think but am not certain but a link to their site is on scrub islands website. I used points and did the 5 for 4 thing (160k points for 5 nights a nice deal imo). I did a trip report on this property. No beach to speak of.

Off-topic:

The expected norm on FT is to provide information in a friendly manner.

It is NOT to be rude, belittle, or harangue others for asking questions (even if repititive ones), or assume because they've been a member of a program that they know all the nuances of a program.

No one (except for mods) is the FT (fill in the forum) police & those who "self-appoint" themselves that role are doing so inappropriately & not with the approval of FT.

And one can't assume that because someone registered for FT a long time ago that they visit it on a regular basis. Heck, I registered for FT & promptly forgot about it for several months/didn't come back (I've made up for that :D). I have friends & colleagues who I've told about FT who have registered but really only come to it if they have a question or need additional information, so their registration date doesn't correlate to the knowledge (or lack of) they have.

FT has been getting a reputation for unfriendliness :(, so some people are leaving FT & going to other websites where they can get their questions answered & not be harangued. As a regular FTer I hate to see people leave FT. As a Talkboard member I especially hate to see that happen, especially when it's not necessary. "Chasing away" FTers by being rude or belitting them is not appropriate.

FT has created the "Ambassadors Program" in some forums, where the Ambassador answers newbie questions (even if they're repetitive) in a friendly manner. One of our Marriott FT regulars is actually an Ambassador in another forum. To date we've not really needed one in the Marriott forum, as most of us are welcoming/take the time to answer questions without being rude to the person asking the question.

I'd also like to remind people of FT TOS:

Welcome Newcomers

FlyerTalk is friendly, informative, fun and thriving. When newcomers arrive, welcome them. By helping folks learn, you provide a shining example of what this community is about, and you help ensure that FlyerTalk continues to flourish. New members may not understand FlyerTalk and its history as well as you do. Remember we were all newbies once.

If you notice a poster, newcomer or not, asking a question that has been answered previously or is answered in the forum FAQs, please be patient. If you wish to reply, do so in a helpful manner, avoiding simply saying: "Do a search."

We suggest this form of reply and a template for it is here: "Your question arises from time-to-time in this forum. One thread which discusses it is here and using FlyerTalk's advanced search feature to search this forum with the terms [insert relevant term(s)] will yield other threads. If you are finding difficulty using the search feature, please send a private message or email to a forum moderator for help."

Personal Attacks

We encourage a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree with another member, challenge the opinion or idea - not the person. Personal attacks, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated and will be removed, and the violator will be subject to disciplinary action. You may challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully

also to be considered, and added to your off-topic position, is:
- If you notice a poster, newcomer or not, asking a question that has been answered previously or is answered in the forum FAQs, please be patient. If you wish to reply, do so in a helpful manner, avoiding simply saying: "Do a search."
- We encourage a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree with another member, challenge the opinion or idea .............
- If you find a questionable message in any of the forums, contact a moderator who will determine whether the message meets our objective of offering a friendly and flame-free community for frequent travelers.
- Posts that further illegal activity (i.e., buying and selling of awards, direct fraud upon any program) will be removed without notice and posting members' FlyerTalk accounts subjected to revocation..........

and, my favorite for those who do not want to read what others have said is:
Should there be members whose posts you don't care to read, you can put them on your ignore list. To do that, click on MyFlyerTalk and then on Edit Ignore List in the Settings & Options section on the left hand side of the page.

I've tried to gently suggest to some FTers (you included) that the rude/belittling comments are not appropriate, and that FT is intended to be a conduit of information provided in a friendly manner. Unfortunately some prefer to continue with said unfriendly behavior to other FTers, so RBPs it will be.

In addition to FTers putting others on Ignore, there is one thing that those who continue to be irritated by FTers asking questions that have been asked before (which is allowed): 1) don't read the thread and/or 2) don't bother responding. @:-) If someone's not providing helpful information in a response, one has to question why someone would even respond. Boggles the mind. FT is not a bully pulpit.

Again, FT is intended to be a resource of information provided in a friendly manner.

Hopefully the OP will come back & let us know which property he chose & how he liked it.
