Wondering if there are any suggestions for a quick stopover on my way home from Asia. I will travel alone on this trip.

Will arrive HNL at 11am on Friday and depart 8pm on Sunday evening. Staying at Ohana hotel which includes a Pink trolley pass for Waikiki!! Hoping to just relax in Waikiki for the weekend. Been to Honolulu over 10 yrs ago so not planning to go Pearl Harbour. I was thinking of the following itinerary...

Day 1, shuttle bus to hotel, ck-in and take afternoon nap, then hang out on Waikiki beach for dinner
Day 2, visit hanauma bay for snorkeling, then relax on Waikiki beach in afternoon
Day 3, rent a one-way car in Waikiki and do circle driving tour (North Shore), drop at HNL for 8pm flight back home.

The one way car rental seems high but I can redeem Hertz points. Another option is to take a public bus to HNL on Day 2 and rent for 2 days, park at hotel $20 for 1 night. Same cost as one-way rental for day 3. Just not sure if I need a car for 2 days. Any suggestions for Day 2 if I have the car? I guess I could do snorkeling somewhere else with the car. I joined a tour for Hanauma Bay last time so was thinking the same idea. Any popular dinning recommendations in Waikiki?

I wouldn't waste my time on the bus. Its notoriously slow/late/crowded.Rent the car. We really like Sensei for Japanese. Il Lupo for Italian. The Beach House for Steaks/seafood. You could also check out yelp for more recommendations.

I would agree, just rent a car. Yes, rentals are high. If you decide not to leave Waikiki, then skip it.

There are so many choices of restaurants/fast food/national franchises (expensive, moderate, economy) within walking distance of your hotel you should have no trouble finding something in your budget. Much as you remember from your last visit over 10 years ago. From La Mer at the Halekulani to Denny's. . . and everything in between. As advised get on the net and do some research. Here's a few of our favs for food/drink that are Waikiki walkable:

Expensive:
Orchid's - Halekulani
Roy's Waikiki
House Without A Key - Halekulani
Azul - Royal Hawaiian
Veranda - Westin Moana Surfrider
Mai Tai Bar - Royal Hawaiian
Hula Grill - Outrigger Waikiki

Moderate:
Rumfire - Sheraton Waikiki
Duke's - Outrigger Waikiki
Tiki's Bar and Grill - Aston Waikiki Beach
Banyan Beach Bar - Westin Moana Surfrider
Moana Terrace - Marriott Waikiki

And then there's mainland choices like: P.F. Chang's, Cheesecake Factory, Chili's, Denny's, Senior Frog's, Jimmy Buffet's Beachcomber, etc.
Enjoy!

I rented a car for the weekend. It'll cost me $30 for shuttle bus roundtrip anyways. Following another thread for circle island drives. Looks like many options!!

Now to yelp for some dining options with nice views of the beach. ^
