Mileage Run Discussion - Suggestions for Segment Run -- DCA -> ?, single-day, six segments, August

I am trying to reach AA Platinum by segments, not miles, before a trip in early September.

Ideally, I want to do a one-day, six-segment run from DCA (but could do IAD or BWI). Ideally, I would fly Tuesday or Wednesday, August 28 or 29.

I did a four-segment run on July 24 DCA-MIA-MCO and back, cheap, using AA's "Looking For Destination Ideas?" feature on the reservation page. (I'm surprised that that route is so cheap during the summer, but maybe families do not want to go to DisneyWorld during the summer?!)

So I can find 4-segment runs pretty readily, but I am having trouble finding a single-day 6-segment run.

Why is it so hard to get routed zig-zag when you want?!

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Just randomly pulling up some fare and routing rules on DCA-LAX/SFO it seems that most have a maximum 1 stop. And if I force ITA to do 6 segments of AA it just prices it as 4 different one-ways, for example, WAS-TUS-LAX-SFO-WAS. To make this really work well in terms of getting a decent price, you'll have to nest r/ts within a run.

mia-mco is $67 each way....dca-mco is 4 segs ~ about the same c/seg...

you might be able to do 6 in 1 day...

edit to add....it will fit.....also prices the same on 1 ticket in case irrops causes a need for orc....

Have you tried looking for flights to a smaller west coast city that cannot be reached non-stop from DFW or ORD? If you got an early start from DCA, you might be able to make it back the same day.

Thanks, sbbutler93, clacko, and JPG3392. I'm still working on it, but it looks like it is going to be easiest and cheapest to do another DCA-MCO run and then, on a separate day, a pretty quick, NY lunch, DCA-JFK run (DCA is only a metro stop away!).

Before I switched to EQMs, my EQS runs ex-DCA were always: DCA-RDU-MIA-MCO-MIA-RDU-DCA ($25/seg, AI, back then). Some times I went to TPA instead.

I'm not sure if JetBlue between DCA and BOS count for segments on AA (they do for miles). If they do count, you may be able to get an RT ticket for less than AA charges for DCA-JFK.
