View Full Version : Should I be upset or let it go??

I posted about my issue with the UA/QR situation yesterday... it got moved and combined with the original thread about QR/UA. Today, my question is this: Should I be satisfied with UA? Should I push for more? At first, I was just happy to have my seats as my whole vacation hinges on this first leg.

"I am sure that we all know by now that the UA/QR codeshare is over... AND that there is some really confusing language out there as far as when and how etc etc - especially when dealing with award seats....

A month ago I book IAH-LHR on UA -LHR-DOH no QR for a trip over Christmas in Biz Class using miles - SAVER - for my girlfriend and I. I knew that they "supposedly" had ended the relationship but inventory was still showing (AND STILL IS). I booked and got the confirmation back as "confirmed and ticketed."

Today I called UA to get my QR ticket # so I could confirm my seats on QR. QR could see the reservation, but the LHR-DOH portion had never been ticketed... and therefore cancelled by QR.

Now what am I supposed to do???

So, I called UA 1K desk and they looked into it... they called QR etc. Came back and said that QR would not honor a rebooking as the relationship had ended. Luckily I am educated on what the statement says and pushed back a little... She said she would see what they could do about getting me on a flight, even though their were no more "saver" seats left in Business - or award Biz inventory on any route I would have wanted to take (layover , aircraft type, etc). The CSR then went to a supervisor... and came back saying that the policy was published and there were even notes in my record that indicated I had been told this. I pushed back again, and finally the CSR agreed with me. She then went back to her supervisor - and they created I inventory IAH-IAD-DXB-DOH on UA metal in Biz. So now I am set (almost as good as before). I was really looking forward to flying on QR and now I have 1 more stop, but I am still a satisfied customer. (I think)"

Now, I am thinking about it - I went from 1 stop IAH-LHR-DOH - PMCO 777 C and QR A346 C - departing at 3:40pm (only had to take a half day off at work). NOW - I have 2 stops - IAH-IAD-DXB-DOH. I have to take a FULL day off work - 11:40am departure. A319 - PMUA 777 C.

Now I am thinking about the full day I have to take off work, the extra stop in IAD, the NARROW PMUA 777 C seat for 12+ hours IAD-DXB. The fact is that there really arent many options out there but, I feel I should at least get bumped to GF on the IAD-DXB flight. I had the IDEAL flights and now Im put off by the whole situation.

What do you suggest I do?

Nothing much you can do at this point. They reaccommodated you with a reasonable schedule into the same class of service that you booked for the days originally booked.

That said, I think you should file a complaint with the DOT about the improper ticketing that caused the snafu in the first place. I actually think that all of us who have this happen to them should file DOT compliants to force UA to fix SHARES from dropping partner segments left and right.

I for my part, actually think that this issue is intentionally left unfixed because it allows UA not to pay partners and selectively put you on segments they might not be able to sell themselves down the line. Or in some cases, they simply blow up a trip and tell the ticketed pax to go pound sand and the entire trip goes unredeemed on partners....

Very shifty stuff, and it is remarkable that this has been dragging on for this long.

Considering they went out of their way to give you R inventory for your award ticket, which is an extremely rare case, and you said it yourself you were satisfied with it. Why would you want to push the limit even further? I would personally let it go.

It was I inventory, not R, my mistake... and, in a sense, all they did was allow me to stay at the "saver" level instead of the full blown miles amount.

Be satisfied, your getting to your destination and they made an exception to get you there in BF. Yes it will cost you another 1/2 day of work but looks like there weren't may other options UA was giving you. Don't think the bump to GF is warranted IMO..... would be nice but can't see them doing that.

Enjoy your trip!

It was UA's mistake so it was the least UA could do especially when they control their own inventory!

Get over it and move on. As you said not much options for United.

It (probably) can't hurt to call and ask, though it's doubtful they'll do much after the fact, and these days, who knows what the agent you get might dream up about the reservation you already have. If it was me, I would probably just let it go.

...the NARROW PMUA 777 C seat for 12+ hours IAD-DXB.

Off topic a little, but I've been perplexed by the comments around the differences between new C seats between the two. I've flown the pmCO flatbeds a few times this year (and quite a bit on the pmUA beds), and I honestly find zero difference from the pmUA flatbeds. I'm 6'2" and not a little dude, and I really can't tell a difference, except I like the little counter with water bottle space over your head on the pmCO seat. Back to topic - COdbaUA will certainly not see that as any kind of detriment to your trip - wouldn't mention that as a 'con' if you do call back.

It's UA's screw up. The schedule change is material enough to cause you lost wages and a significantly longer travel time. For me, anything short of having UA rebook me on QR (even as a revenue pax) would be unacceptable and grounds for requesting additional compensation.

Hold UA to the fire. Hold the carrier accountable.

I think the suggestion to file a DOT complaint is a good one. It sounds as if UA made it (somewhat) right in the end, but it appears that UA is the one who caused the problem in the first place.

I'm in the move on crowd. Best not to start your vacation upset.

You knowingly booked a flight that you was aware was questionable and then did not do the immediate follow-up to make sure it was really booked. Yes UA screwed up but you seemed to be aware it was a high risk situation.

UA has made some accommodations for its screw-up but you also need to accept you pushed the boundaries and got burned.

Im not looking for any sort of financial compensation... thats out of the question.

But the fact is, that their statement that STILL resides says that you CAN BOOK AWARD TRAVEL UNTIL SEPT 14th with QR - and it will be honored for one year. And you can STILL see QR inventory AND book it online.

This is their screwup, 100%.

Changes happen, and they did give you a pretty reasonable alternative. I'm not sure "Yeah, but their business class was much better than yours" is going to get a lot of traction. I'd be happy with what you have (but also check at T-14 to see if you can do LH IAH-FRA-DOH on the 380).

If you have to ask if you should be upset then you just answered your own question. You aren't actually upset - You want to be so you can "join the cause" against UA.

OP: You have to ask yourself (not others): "What do I feel I need to make this right?". If you haven't gotten it, press on with other action. NO one can tell you how to feel.

My opinion: I personally would let it go and move on to better things.

You know, in my rush to stick it to UA, I had overlooked that point. I definitely don't feel sorry for you now. :D

(Seriously, I'm glad that it worked out, because it seems like a fabulous place to spend the holiday!)
