United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - UA NYC-Madrid, I知 Slightly Bummed

I値l be flying from NYC to Jerez de la Frontera (XRY) in Spain next month on a government ticket. I was psyched because after getting off the phone with SATO they reserved me on UA metal between EWR and Madrid (connecting on Iberia to XRY) both ways. I知 looking forward to the PQM (esp the 50% bonus for Gov Y class) and was planning to use my miles to upgrade.

Then I found out the aircraft is a domestic 757 without business class and with domestic first class seats. Makes the upgrade much less desirable although it痴 still preferable. Not planning any sort of (quasi) MR for this trip, want to minimize connections and hopefully arrive with my checked luggage. Looks like I知 just going to have to suck it up on this one, could be worse.

But still curious if anyone knows of any other options for getting to XRY or MAD, on a lie flat seat, on either United or other airlines on which I could upgrade with UA miles.

It is a 757 but it has the BF flat-bed seats. I don't know how you concluded that it is a domestically configured plane.

Fortunately UA's TATC 752s are not the same as domestic 753s or 752s. Yes, there are only two classess, but the first class seats are really nice lie flat and the entertainment system is great as well!

The TATL 757s all have lie-flat BusinessFirst. The only other 757s that are ETOPS rated are the PMUA birds that are used on the west coast-hawaii runs.

I also was wondering the same thing.

Because most travelers associate the 757 with long domestic US flights, not 3,500+ mile flights over the pond ;)

Thank you for clarifying for this member that the flight will have BusinessFirst seats. I think it best to close the thread and invite the OP to start a new one if they have additional questions.
