Asiana Club - Getting credit for "retro-active mileage"
So I'm Silver, and I recently traveled LAX-ICN and back, and received no mileage credit. Asiana told me to email them an itinerary, which I did.
The airline replied:
"Unfortunately, your mileage claim cannot be processed because we did not receive original boarding passes."
My questions are: Who keeps their original boarding passes? And more to the point, what kind of airline doesn't automatically track its members' flights?

I always keep my boarding passes for paid travel until the mileage from the flights post to whatever FF account I'm having them credited to. Isn't it common knowledge among FFers that you're supposed to do that? Most airlines tell you to save your BPs until the mileage posts, don't they?
I'm not an FF'er, so this is good to know.
But really, Asiana has no independent knowledge that I wasn't a no-show? That I checked in baggage with them both ways and sat in seats 35C and 24A? What are the bar codes for on the boarding passes? My miles have always accrued automatically with AA, USAir and Delta. Sorry to be so dense.

It is just not Asiana, but all airlines ask you to keep the boarding pass until your mileage has been credited. Was your membership number printed on your boarding pass or did you give them the number during checking in? Even though I put/give my membership number during booking, always double check at the check in counter that membership number is entered.
Fyi, no matter whether you have a printed out receipt from their own website or not, ultimately it is the BP that shows you have flown the segments. Even for tax claim purpose for biz trip ira ask to submit the BP along with tax invoice.
Litte extra care will save you unnecessary inconveniences and take it as another lesson learnt. ;)
I assume that this was an OZ flight on OZ metal? If so, it is extremely unusual that the miles are not credited. I've flown hundreds of OZ flights, and in all but a very rare case, the miles are posted to my OZ account immediately (by the time I arrive at my destination and check, they're already credited). So if you had two consecutive flights that didn't post, it's almost certain that something was wrong. Either you were booked into a class that didn't earn miles, or they had the wrong FF number and your miles went to some other account, or you failed to give them any FF number. If somewhere along the way you supplied them with a different FF number for a different carrier, then you might be able to claim the miles if you can get the other carrier to first release the miles they credited to your account. But of course without the original boarding passes, even that may not work. All airlines tell you to keep your original boarding passes for mileage claims. If you didn't, then you need to chalk it up to an expensive lesson.
If by chance you gave them your OZ card, and they erroneously inputted the wrong number, you might have something to hang your hat on. Unfortunately, without the original boarding passes, you have no idea if they inputted the wrong number or not.

Resolution: I kept pestering Asiana via email about this issue and today was credited with 11,946 miles, precisely three months after my return flight.
Lesson learned about retaining my boarding passes though.

Glad to hear things worked out in your favour and you are very lucky they entertained you without boarding pass. About five years ago, my travel agent didn't process my membership form to claim it and lost 10368 miles SYD-ICN return. OZ office told me "Sorry" was the answer even though I had boarding pass.
Anyway, your mileage claim will be very useful when you achieve 20k to become a OZ gold.
