Travel Technology - Streaming New Movies at Airports

Hello fellow members :cool:

I humbly request your opinion on an airport feature that may or may not happen in the very near future.

Imagine AMC or Regal theaters launching a platform where airline travelers can get new releases (movies currently playing in theaters) streamed to their mobile device at the airport while they're waiting to depart.

Why would brick and mortar theaters create a platform that could put their existing business out of business? And if they are trying to redefine their business, why only limit this to airports?

I would imagine this could be profitable if you could get the motion picture companies on board, and offer your product anywhere. There are lots of problems in getting all parties to agree on offering this product, but I think it would/could be a viable product and something the public would want.

Initial problems would be the bandwidth required, and deciding on the quality of the stream. The public has shown they like streaming movies, now the major details are the ones about money, who gets how much, and how are you going to get all this bandwidth for this to work.

Movies are close to two hours long.

Most people at the airport don't have time to sit that long to watch a movie, and don't want to waste the battery power they need on the plane due to the limited amounts of plugs available at gates to power their device.

Don't possibly see it working, but then again there are lots of products out there I would not possibly seen as working.

Wifi or internet access also is not free in most US airports, even if is free, not all are unrestricted (speed, time limit, etc..). I think it is just an idea very difficult to implement to make it business viable. Besides, why limit to just airport, you are talking Amazon/Netflix App with current release movies.
