As above although the online booking system does not show the discounts.

Fill ye boots :)

Do VA have these reward flight sales often?

They nearly always have discounted redemptions for selected routes at any given time.

The problem with VS economy rewards is that the taxes/fees almost come to the price of a discounted economy ticket.

The problem with Virgin economy is that it's Virgin economy. :D

They do seem to do offers on Economy Rewards a lot.

I have certainly never bothered with taking them up on an offer as I do not want to use miles and then pay hundreds of pounds for a seat in economy.

If I go economy I'd rather pay slightly more for economy and then earn miles instead of spending them. Probably not on Virgin though as you only earn 50% on the cheap tickets. A certain competitor with a large route network is 100% earning on the cheap tickets so I'd rather go with them in economy.

If you do want to go Virgin economy and use this offer then all the rates are listed here (http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/frequentflyer/spendmiles/rewardflights/flightsformiles.jsp).

Solid value if you apply an AMEX voucher to upgrade to PE though.

Excellent point. If I had any vouchers I would be very tempted to do that!

Unfortunately in the email T&C, point number 8 is "Credit Card Upgrades cannot be applied to this offer".

Ah ok. Virgin are being fairly harsh there. Will save my miles for an UC redemption then (along with a shed load of taxes and fees).

That's good news. I guess the phone agents are not necessarily aware of the T&Cs!

LOL - well done ^^ Typical that no one at VS tells the agents the T&C, which couldn't be much clearer.

Yes they do have these offers all the time, and one or two travel journalists have made the point that they are not real offers but rather they are masquerades of offers.

Do they ever do these in PE or UP. That would be a no brainer even with the fees. would be like the AF 50% awards

Like that's ever going to happen. They hardly give any space away in UP for regular mileage. The scheme is a great model of classic hype.

Interesting comment. What are you basing it on?

I have rarely had trouble booking upper rewards, and from comments I have read on here and V-Flyer, VS are seemingly comparatively generous in releasing seats for Upper redemptions - unless you are trying for MCO in school holidays, and even then it is difficult rather than impossible.

My only bugbear about redemptions is the massive fuel surcharge. :td:

That's a bit misleading. For example I can do LHR-LAX return in Upper Class virtually any day I want from November onwards. Even before then, outbound availability isn't terrible (I'll admit return isn't great).

Hong Kong is a bit more restrictive, but its still possible to find decent dates.

I think the problem is more that the engine for searching isn't great.

Thanks Nick and Agent
Agent you picked the very route I generally struggle with. Second in difficulty only to Las Vegas. And then there's Carib, and Cancun . . .

Another reasonable point re the search engine, flight dates seem to come and go when you are not expecting.
