Thanks to the expected completion of the elevation of the railroads near Keikyu Kamata station, Keikyu announced it is going to improve operation between HND and Shinagawa, HND and Yokohama.

From Oct 21, train departs every 10 min. in both direction from/to HND and it takes only 15 min. from/to Shinagawa. In every two hours between Shinagawa and HND in one direction, there will be 9 rapid special express, which stop only at Keikyu Kamata en route + 3 rapid airport special express, which are nonstop.

About time! It seemed like every train to HND was a regular express (エアポート急行), which had triple the stops and was generally less pleasant than the special rapid (エアポート快特). I'm sure Kamata will be pleased to have increased frequencies as well; they were displeased in 2010 when Keikyu said all of the special rapids would pass the station.

Also, according to the Nikkei, the central loop expressway extension from Shinjuku to Oimachi, to be completed in mid-2013, will cut the HND-Shinjuku drive time to 20 minutes.

This is good news and will put Keikyu ahead of the monorail in my book.

Bump. It's started.

Now that the Tokyo Monorail takes longer, they are starting to sell discount tickets to match Keikyu fares.HND to Hamamatsucho or v.v., 800 yen round trip. Valid 10 days.

Mention "Monorail Hanewari Ofuku Kippu" to buy the ticket or print and show
" モノレール羽割往復きっぷ、ください".

Awesome. I'll be using Toei to Keikyu to HND on Friday evening so it will be nice to get there on something other than the "express" that seems to make every stop.

Here's the page for that ticket (http://www.tokyo-monorail.co.jp/tickets/value/hanewari.html). The stupid thing about this one (and the similar discounted Keikyu ticket) is that they have to be purchased the day of travel at a ticket window and can't be used in the ticket gates. If you could simply purchase them at a ticket machine I imagine more people would use them (but perhaps that's the point?).

Too bad that all the evening trains still seem to be the "express" albeit there are more of them... looks like the real fast one is only between around 10am and 4pm in each direction?

Actually they seem to have the fast train FROM HND after 8 pm or so, but yes, otherwise it is a 10 to 4 thing at this point.

Yeah, on my way out Friday there were only expresses -- mine stopped for about 5 minutes at Kamata for some reason. Last night though, they were running the limited expresses. I know Keikyu probably won't stop running expresses during rush hour but even this is a nice improvement.

Having a bit of trouble figuring out this service. I can travel from HND > Keikyu Kamata? I couldn't find a timetable. Arriving late night (2230) to HND and departing HND early morning (0630) and staying near the Kamata rail station.

Thanks

Yes. Any one of these trains will take you there (on a weekday anyway):

Just don't take a "rapid limited express" train. (There aren't any late at night, so this won't be a problem for you.)
