A few people were asking in a recent United thread regarding new 319/20 bins (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-mileageplus-consolidated/1370897-new-overhead-bins-a320-319-pics.html) about the NXT 5.0 22 fitting in the overhead bins so I thought I would post results here instead of taking over that thread.

I previously had the Mobilizer NXT 3.0 22" Ultra-light. Received this bag in 2006. 6 years later, the handle broke and the wheels needed to be replaced. Took it into an authorized repair shop. Two months later (separate story), they replaced that bag with the NXT 5.0 22". The Ultra Light is apparently no longer made. The stated dimensions are 14 x 9 x 22.

This bag is largely the same. Some big improvements is to the handle. The sides of it are a rubber plastic versus a metal. This should help with the longevity. The other big improvement was increasing the 'feet' size slightly. This causes that bag to lean towards the wheels more which means it is less likely to fall over when a heavy bag is placed on top. Initially, I thought this was awesome.

I then flew with the bag. It does not fit in the current United 319 overhead bins with wheels first. I had to put the bag sideways and look like a noob. I then flew a pre-merger United 737-700. Per recommendations, I oriented the bag handle in first, pocket up, wheels out. I was able to get the bag to fit with a good shove above 3AB. Next flight was back on a 319. I tried the same alignment and gave the bin a very solid shove, I heard the plastic actually start to crack, and realized it would not fit. Again, positioned it sideways like a noob. Clearly the stated dimensions do not include the feet or handle.

I will update based on experiences as it goes, but as it stands I would not recommend this bag. Great bag, but if you can't easily put it in the overhead bins, it has very little value.

Planes where it fits:
Pre-Merger 737-700 above 3AB

Planes where it does NOT fit:
UA Airbus 319
