ANA Group, Japan’s largest Airline, today announces plans to introduce new menus on international flights between Japan and North America and Japan and Europe. The menus have been created in collaboration with renowned culinary establishments in Tokyo and Paris.
The new a la carte menus, which will be available to Business Class passengers, will feature meals created by Sekiyou, a Michelin 2-star (*1) Japanese ryokan in Yugawara Onsen from September to November 2012 and by Signature, the Michelin 1-star (*2) French-inspired dining restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Tokyo from December 2012 to February 2013.
Furthermore, following the success of the desserts created by Pierre Hermé Paris introduced in June 2012 for First Class passengers, ANA plans to renew its range of desserts in September 2012 and simultaneously introduce Pierre Hermé original desserts in the Business Class menus.

Looks like the second meal in Y on transpacs is being upgraded to offer two choices from September 2012. This is a change I can like.

I wish the C meal in TPAC would involve three choices, especially if they insist on keeping steak (with rotating sauces) as one of them.

Well, there are three choices... one of them being the Japanese course.

One thing I really wish they would improve is that the western meal in C is offered only with rice as a choice. They normally bring the same rice as for the JP meal. However if you want something else than rice there is not much else than bread and so you end up with a steak and a bread in C....
I hope they start offering mash potato or some tagliatelle as alternative to the meat/fish in the western meal.

Will try this in C in a couple weeks. The outbound NRT-SFO looks good. On the way back I think it looks like United plus alpha.
The wine list in C is unbelievably bad. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon? 2nd tier producers for everything else.
And Trefethen for F class? Really? wow! That is cutting corners. But the worst of it is they offer two Japanese merlots as alternatives. Japanese wine is some of the worst in the world and national product support and pride aside, for goodness sake think of the palates of those who fly in F. Shocking NH, just shocking!
I have loved NH since I cannot remember when, but after the OS and LX flights this summer in June and August, I realize how far off the mark NH has fallen.

How about trying sake? Granted, it's not going to pair well with steak.

Sake is nice but necessarily a food marriage sort of drink unless. More of an accent than a component if that description makes sense to anyone :) An airline's catering is in part judged by its wine list. Some do it well, ANA used to do it very very well. They do not anymore.

Did any of you guys try the plum wine they serve on the flights? The NH FA swore it was Japan's finest.
