Hello

Soon I will be flying on Thai from Ho Ch Minh City to Yangon, with a stopover in BKK. I am Star Alliance Gold.

Was wondering if people could advise what Star Alliance lounges are available in SGN and RGN (and their facilities/quality) and what the best Star Alliance lounge in Bangkok is?

Many thanks

Hi, I can help you regarding SGN lounges;

Star Alliance use to operate a *A branded lounge in SGN however it has been closed for a number of years, the lounge most *A carriers use in SGN currently is the Rose Lounge (this lounge is ok at best, inferior to the VN lounges), or you are given the option of collecting vouchers for a massage or restaurant in the terminal.

If you are also an ST Elite Plus, ill try getting into one of VN's lounges

I visited Myanmar in 2007. The lounge TG used in RGN(probably the only one in the airport) was spacious and OK to spend 30' but nothing to write home about it.
I do not remember if they had work stations/wifi but at that time internet in the country was extremely slow.

Which lounge at SGN do LH business class passengers have access to?
Is this the same for *G?

Thanks

I believe it is the rose lounge for everybody. The lounge is often very overcrowded. Mediocre food and drink, almost no useful reading material. Restaurants airside are overpriced. If you are hungry you are better off to go to one of the restaurants landside (one floor above the check in counters, a bit hidden).

In RGN, there is a lounge that TG uses, which will allow *G flying in Y to access. There's not much there -- cold food and beer, basic sofas, little international reading material -- though there are two computer terminals on which you can use the internet.

On my last two trips, including earlier this week, the wi-fi barely worked (even though internet in the country is much improved since my first trip a year and a half ago). There is a restaurant and bar in the main terminal that has functioning wi-fi, for which they will sell you an access code for $2.

I found the RGN airport with no lounge access surprisingly pleasant. It is very modern. There is a cafe where you can sit and use the internet. And there are a lot of shops with local products and prices consistent with what can be found in town. I have an upcoming trip, and won't mind spending an hour or two there at all.
