Do I have enough time to go into the city for maybe an hour or so?
I'll be arriving from CLT on US and departing to ZRH on LX.

I've only been a couple of times, but Dublin is quite a long way from the centre of the city. I'd be surprised if it was worth it. Looks like you are talking about arriving on US724 that is due into T2 at 0655-ish, and departing on LX401 out of T1 at 1115? If so, your inbound could be a few mins early. But you will also be arriving with a number of other TATL flights. Getting through immigration could take 20 mins or more. That means you wouldn't be out of the terminal for transportation into the city until, say, 0730. That is rush hour into the city center. If you take the bus or a taxi, both can use bus lanes. Still it's at least 25 mins. Very best case you're on O'Connell Bridge or Trinity College at 0800. If you have your boarding pass for your LX onward flight, you need to be back to go through security by 1030. So you have two hours MAX to ramble around and have some breakfast. More likely you have 90 mins. gb1985 Jul 30, 12, 4:39 pm Do I have enough time to go into the city for maybe an hour or so? I'll be arriving from CLT on US and departing to ZRH on LX. Depends what time you land and what you want to do in city. Airport is abt 30 mins from city center. colmc Jul 30, 12, 7:11 pm Personlly, with that little time between flights, I wouldn't bother on this occasion. redtailshark Jul 31, 12, 2:58 pm Do I have enough time to go into the city for maybe an hour or so? And never do this if you're connecting to Air [Lingus - edit by moderator]. Their gates are more than a mile from check in, no doubt at the pleasure of their sworn enemies Aer Rianta. Camflyer Jul 31, 12, 3:32 pm Not really worth it. I'd just head to the airport bar. bizorbetter Jul 31, 12, 3:43 pm Looks like you are there in the AM so no point If i am wrong and you are there later then yes, get a cab to the temple bar, total tourist trap but a great great time....have a Guiness or two and head back to airport stifle Aug 1, 12, 8:45 am I wouldn't. You're asking for trouble. gaelflyer Aug 1, 12, 2:45 pm You could take a taxi to Malahide or Howth, have breakfast and a walk along the sea to clear the head and return. But more time would be needed for a relaxing trip. Syme Aug 2, 12, 2:14 pm I'd have to agree with above and say it'd be too tight for me to be comfortable doing it. Taxi is 30mins or more, bus is nearly 1 hour. It's well worth a visit, but you'd need more time to be able to actually enjoy it imo. GoldCircle Aug 3, 12, 5:40 am Another local here agreeing that it's more trouble than it is worth. However, the below suggestion is excellent and if the weather is good, might be a wonderful experience! Kaitlin Aug 31, 12, 12:45 am Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. Here's what happened. My flight arrived at DUB a bit early. The weather looked nice, so I decided to venture into town. I bought a €12 roundtrip ticket for Aircoach, and didn't have to wait long before hopping on a bus. 20 minutes later I got off at the Grafton St stop, the traffic wasn't bad at all. I went to Bewley's for breakfast. Afterwards I walked around for 90 min or so before hopping on the bus at the Suffolk St stop for the 25 min return trip back to the airport. Everything went smoothly, and it was definitely a pleasant layover!! |
