Just wondering:

Do you ever receive a card or letter at any Hilton family hotel that you visit which outlines the Diamond or Gold amenities you should be receiving at that hotel? Specific hotels would be helpful...

I got a welcome letter last week at the Hilton Berlin that explained my Gold benefits. It was handed to me at check-in along with Internet chits. I think I may have gotten one in Nuremberg as well, but can't remember the other recent stays I've had. Hope this helps.

I never have received an amenity card at the property. Are you thinking of one like Marriott does for its Platinum guests where you choose your amenity from the offerings on the card?

With HHonors, you choose your "My Way on property benefits" on the HHonors website. You should normally choose it by 24 hours before your arrival but one front desk clerk informed me that it could be changed as long as you had not checked in (but not afterwards).

I was wondering, since different "entitlements" vary from brand to brand and within brand, from location to location, if anyone receives a card or letter letting know what that hotel/resort offers their Gold/Diamond guests. I would imagine that someone who has obtain their status by roadwarrioring it at HGI and ES would not be sure what they should get an a W=A or Conrad... Would you be embarassed to ask about your free breakfast chit (that you always get at another Hilton family hotel), only to be told that that particular hotel does not offer that amenity?
Would you want your Front Desk Agent to inform you verbally of all the amenities you should receive? Would you want a card/letter? Or would you rather just not have anything because you don't want your time wasted?
Example: at the WA Outer Mongolia, you get the standard Gold amenities plus you have the resort charge waived, you get a coupon for 2 drinks (but can only be redeemed at 1 of 5 bars and only at specific hours), you have 10% off food instead of a lounge, you can have priority tee times if you want to play golf, etc....

Varies from property to property. I've gotten this at some HGIs and DTs in NYC and Memphis (I think?), and once at Hilton Atlanta. Other times the FDA just tells me what I'm getting, and still other times I have to ask for what I know I should get.

It's often not even consistent at the same property. There's one DT I stay at regularly in NYC and they give me a welcome card every time, and a welcome letter with benefits, restaurant hours, etc. only about every other time. And maybe ever 4th visit I get a whole goodie bag with water, snacks, an area guidebook, etc.

They do always give me two cookies. :D

The Hilton HHonors Web site clearly defines the elite benefits for each brand. Gold and Diamond members would be wise to review them. Given the number of TripAdvisor reviews bemoaning the lack of free breakfast at Waldorf Astoria properties, however, it seems many elites have no clue.

That said, I'd guess that I receive "welcome" letters outlining hotel amenities and elite benefits about 70% of the time. I find the full service brands usually provide a letter, while the limited/focused service brands are less likely to do so.

I did receive a welcome letter and pack of perks I would receive at the Bentley in Miami in march and it had things like 2 free mojito coupons, and a welcome letter stating free beach chairs and umbrellas at the beach.

A couple times I have received a welcome letter that will just have the breakfast hours mentioned.

The former LVH used to you a letter with your keys explaining the benefits as well.

Out of my past dozen or so Hilton stays in North America, I only remember one hotel that offered such a letter. The Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Magnificent Mile. Very clear Diamond benefits description, breakfast options etc.

Make it the property's responsibility to remind the guest of benefits. There's a solution! ;)

Some times it's a note; some times the check-in agent hits the highlights. I know my benefits by chain before I ever step in the door.

International hotels with lounges often give letters as to all the benefits that go with lounge access:

Hours for lounge
Food offerings in lounge
Cost for guests
Whether allowed to have breakfast in main dining room
Any additional benefits

I haven't seen the letter in some time and it usually was the first thing I threw away when I got to my room....

The water bottles and snacks etc keep coming.

Yup, I love the breakfast there! Two clear options either:
the cooked to order along with buffet in the restaurant
or
an alternative of Venti size drink (including mochas, lattes etc) + granola parfait/pastry at the onsite Starbucks.

Both very good!.

They've never given me snacks when I have stayed there. I agree about the breakfast. If I travel solo I will usually use one of the vouchers every day to eat at Weber and then use the other voucher at the Starbucks and grab a lattee and a pastry and put the pastry in my room to eat later.
