Japan - walking from JR Tokyo station to Subway Otemachi

I'm thinking of taking Narita Express to Tokyo and walking to Otemachi to catch the Hanzomon line (to go back towards the Tobu line). Anyone know how bad the walk is? The pathway to Otemachi is on the Yaesu side, correct?
Any insight appreciated.

Are you trying to connect to the Tobu Isesaki Line? What's your final destination?
Personally, I would take the Keisei Line to Aoto and change at Oshiage Station. Depending on what time you are coming into Narita Airport, there are direct trains that stop at Oshiage Station (connect to the Tobu Isesaki Line at Oshiage) as well.

Otemachi subway station is actually on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo station.

Once you find your way from the Basement Level 5 up to the Marunouchi Central or North entrance (http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/img/map_e/e1039.pdf) it shouldn't be too far to walk.

If you were to make this connection, I'd recommend doing it at the basement level. However, assuming the OP wants Tobu Isezaki, Railroad Tycoon's suggestion to use Keisei trains and avoid Tokyo station altogether is a good one.

Actually you can go to Otemachi from either side (there is a passage from the Nihombashi exit, on the north end of the Yaesu side).
However I agree that Tokyo Station is a bad choice for connecting to the Tobu Line. Take a Keisei "Access Express" train to Oshiage. 46 minutes, 1130 yen. Faster than NEX and nearly a third of the cost.

Why wouldn't you just take the Marunouchi Line from Tokyo to Otemachi to transfer? I doubt it would even cost any more to travel an extra station by subway.

Why wouldn't you just take the Marunouchi Line from Tokyo to Otemachi to transfer?
Because by the time you make it to the Marunouchi Line at Tokyo you are almost in Otemachi (the station plan (http://www.tokyometro.jp/station/tokyo/yardmap/index.html) actually shows one of the exits (#1) is for Otemachi station) and you certainly don't want to have to transfer from the Marunouchi Line to the Hanzomon Line at Otemachi (http://www.tokyometro.jp/station/otemachi/yardmap/index.html).
A better question is why go to Saitama at all. :)

Also, at this time of year, I wouldn't try anything that requires walking more than 50 meters out of doors. It's unbearable at the moment.

Why not? The Marunouchi line Tokyo station is right above the NEX, and the Hanzomon line at Otemachi is right below the Marunouchi line. Sounds like a pretty clean way of connecting without having to go outdoors, which you'd rather not this time of year.

Why don't you take JR Sobu Rapid Line from Tokyo to Kinshicho and change trains for the Hanzomon line there?

Might be most helpful if the OP told us their final destination instead of just asking about this one connection. Their origination point appears to be Narita airport.

Why not take the Sobu Rapid from Narita to Kinshicho and change trains?
Or take the bus to T-CAT and catch the Hanzomon Line there?
I'll tell you why. Because it's a pain in the butt compared to taking a direct train to Oshiage that takes less than an hour.

No need to go outdoors - you can connect to Otemachi station underground via the Oazo Bldg.

Since the new Mitsubishi building was completed a few months back, you can also connect via the tunnels under the Shin Marunouchi building, which I think results in a slightly shorter and more scenic walk.

my final destination is Kasukabe. why go there? family. why else would anyone go there? the NEX is simply a preference though Oshiage and Kinshicho would be good alternatives. Perhaps Asakusa even. Or Funabashi to Tobu Noda Line. Yuck. Kasukabe is VERY inconvenient. why no limousine buses there? Possibility of NEX to Omiya and back on the Noda line as well, though that makes the trip about 3 hrs. One reason on the Skyliner or NEX is that I love to have my one (or more) beers from Narita into Tokyo and would feel weird doing that on a commuter train.
edit: how long is the transfer at Kinshicho? I once transferred from Hanzomon to Sobu line from Mitsukoshimae to Shin Nihonbashi and I felt I had to walk half of Tokyo. Kinshicho looks like a winner so far. Also, want to say appreciate all you guys input.

SHIN CHAN! ;)
Alternate route you could take is: Skyliner to Nippori, easy transfer to JR Joban Line to Kita-Senju. At Kita-Senju change to the Isesaki Line to Kasukabe.
Depending on what time you are arriving into Narita Airport, you could take a Keisei Line train direct from Narita Airport to Oshiage Station, at Oshiage, change to the Isesaki Line direct to Kasukabe.

I'm trying to avoid Kita Senju if possible. What a mess of a station (no kidding, I love the place, but not with bags and on a few glasses of beer with so many people) so trying to avoid Nippori to Kita Senju or Ueno to Kita Senju. Oh, and don't get me started on the Joban line (long story)

Forward some luggage so you don't have to worry about lugging them around, or don't drink?
Having traipsed back and forth to NRT from Kasukabe and apartments in Ichinowari and Takesato where I lived for 7 years from 1990 to 1997 I feel confident in saying there really is not better choice than the Keisei to Oshiage and then the Isesaki line from there. Once upon a time Narihirabashi was the start point but that is no more. The Nippori, Joban Line to Kita Senju switch is fine with a briefcase, but not a suitcase. Kinshicho is not even a point for discussion.
Small world, wonder if we know any of the same people up there. The city has zero redeeming characteristics and I recommend getting the family down to Tokyo to meet you there. Seriously if Saitama ever needs an enema, that is where it will get plugged in I think.

I think it's just a couple of minutes. There are elevators and escalators in the subway station.

Chichibu and points nearby have a certain sleepy charm while still being relatively close to Tokyo.
But I agree, the Chibaragitama area has few redeeming characteristics.

You could take the bus to Koshigaya and train or cab it the rest of the way, maybe.

When I first arrived in 1990 that is what I did. :-) But to Omiya and then came back on the Noda line to Harunichibu.
