Is Seatguru out of date or does Thai really fly a 773 with old style recliner seats on a nearly 6 hour flight from ICN to BKK?

Seat guru is not out of date, at least on this.

TG does not posses any 77W except for those leased from 9W. If you picked up the 777-300ER from COdbaUA then it's in error. According to the wonderful world of COdbaUA all 777s are ER.

UA is the culprit...what is the airframe on ICN-BKK, and am I looking at 6 hours in a recliner? Normally I wouldn't care, but I am flying JFK-ICN, overnighting in Seoul, then flying ICN-BKK to connect to a BKK-SYD flight, so given the huge amount of time in the air, i'd like to be as comfortable as possible.

no, there is no 777 in the Thai fleet with recliner. its a 777-300 with angled lie flat

Your looking at TG`s 3. generation standard slope style C-Seat, which is the same as the one found in the 777-200ER. However it is in a 2-3-2 configuration so be sure to stay away from the middle seat!

TG is due to receive First 77W (non-9W frame) and enters operation from 15AUG12. It's just that TG doesn't distinguish 777-300 and -300ER by using 773 and 77W, which can be confusing.

I have given up all hope that Seatguru will ever correct their description of the TG 773. I know I have let them know (a long time ago). I know others have let them know. Still nothing changes. UA with it's 747-200s and "ER" addiction is just another annoyance!

Does anyone know if the angled flat business seats on the Thai 777-300ER (for example, TG466 from MEL-BKK) is the same business class product (or better/worse) compared to the angled business class seat on the newer 747 that operates the SYD-BKK route? Thanks.

MEL is not operated by a 777-300ER!

It is a 777-300 - it has a newer version of the 744 seat with much larger IFE screen.

My mistake! I meant 777-300...thanks for the info though - that is very helpful.

The J seat on the TG 777-300 (and 777-200ER) is newer than the J seat fitted to their 7443s and A340s. However, it's not necessarily better.

In the upright position, I prefer the 773/772ER seat (http://www.thaiairways.com/thai-services/in-the-air/en/Sogerma/seat02_vFinal.html). When reclined to sleeping mode, I prefer the 7443/A340 (http://www.thaiairways.com/thai-services/in-the-air/en/mini-pod/seat01_m2-11.html) seat. Now both seats are angled to the floor when reclined, however the 7443/A340 seat goes flat, wheras the 773 seat does not.

Slightly more information here (http://www.thaiairways.com/thai-services/in-the-air/en/Royal%20Silk%20class/royal-silk-class-services.htm).

Thanks for that information HGP. I didn't realize there was a difference. I always flew the A345s to/from LAX before. I'll be in Business on a 777-200ER to LAX for the first time in a few weeks. It's a disappointment to see on that link that the seat on the 777-200ER is nowhere near flat, the way that leg support comes up partially. I'm normally rolling over in bed a lot, so shifting positions is important. On the A345's, I was able to sleep on my side, and even my belly for a while. Don't know if I'll be able to do that with this one?

On the other hand, with the new times for the LAX flights (to and from) since going to one-stop, at least one good thing (in my opinion) is that I can start the long journey relatively rested, rather than at the end of the day when I'm near ready to sleep. Cause on an airplane I'm never going to sleep well, compared to my own bed.

The new flight times are still lousy for connections to and from however.

Personally I think the seat is a lot more flat than that image suggests.

I have spent countless hours (hundreds.. so not completely countless) in the 777-200ER and 777-300 Royal Silk seats and the animation of the recline is accurate. When I crank the seat back for sleep, I sometimes feel a bit disappointed it doesn't recline more completely, but then I generally sleep OK in these seats on the run b/w Australia and BKK.
