My wife and I might fly the A380 double suite back and forth SFO-HKG next year. I have a few questions:

1. Though the cabins as depicted at seatguru.com appear the same, there seem to be two different sets of numbers for the double suite seats. That is, in one configuration it is rows 2 and 3. In the other, it is rows 3 and 4. Any sense of which one is more likely to be on the SFO-HKG route?
2. Regardless, if these plans work out, any recommendation on whether to pick the first or second row for the double suite on the 380?
3. One seat map I saw, perhaps at the SQ site, indicates that the first row of the double suites is for bassinets. Any chance we'd get bumped from the double suite in the first row if in fact a bassinet is needed there?

Thanks for any info and advice!

Wonder where you got your info? There is only one Suite layout with rows 2/3 in the center.

They are identical.

Theoretically possible, practically unlikely.;) You will be bumped if a bassinet seat is needed. The probabilities of that happening is less than 1/100 of 1%.;)

Thanks to you both for the quick replies. As for my question about whether one row was better than the other: Sometimes, for example, a given row can be a little noisier due to proximity to the galley, but I realize we're dealing with very fine seats, service, etc. here so that such differences if any would be minimal. Just thought I'd ask in case there were any factors I should be aware of.

Got the info from seatguru, which for some reason provides two configurations. Here's the one with rows 3/4:

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Singapore_Air/Singapore_Air_Airbus_A380.php

But this would not be the first time that seatguru provided incorrect info.

I would use the SQ site for the maps, they are drawn better and give a better representation.

seatguru has become increasingly unreliable - especially for non US airlines

I have a change of planes from 777-300ER to A380-800. We have seat numbers 3D and 3C. Are they first class suites? Are they good seats?

Thanks

Can any suite be a bad seat?

3CD are in the middle.

I have 3A going to SFO in JAN, it has 3 windows if that's important.

Guess not. Will be traveling with my mom so the middle seats would be the best. It seems like the window seats are better when traveling alone.

Now this will really piss off the "locals" but seems many of us who booked awards during the "open back door" a few weeks ago, find ourselves on routes where 777Ws have been changed to A380s so now have real First Suites. It was an expensive award in terms of miles redeemed, but now certainly worth the price!

I'd love to treat my wife to a flight in one of the A380 first suites. I understand that it's going to be expensive, but I was wondering what a "good deal" might be. We're based in DC, so I'm looking at JFK-FRA, but I might also consider LAX-NRT. Seems like JFK-FRA prices out at about $9k per person and LAX-NRT prices out at about $13.5k per person. Is anyone aware of these routes ever coming available for significantly less than that?

Sorry, but completely Ridiculous.

Every SQ flight I've flown has had a single to two pax F seat occupied.
It's known that even locals don't get in on the A380 suites easily.
My current itins have two others in the A380 F outbound and zero others in the return besides my res in both cases.

And yes the last res is SQ award redemption, NOT the UA backdoor opening. If the locals are pissed, the they would only have themselves to blame. I find open F on future flights of interest for me as well.

Otherwise don't attempt the non-gloat, the back door awards were available at the saver fare unless you want to post the screen shots of the standard redemption receipt. Doubtful.

Best not to try and aggrevate 'the locals' with guised-gloating.

There are bad seats:

1A and 1K are not desirable as anyone walking the stairs can look into the Suites. There is also storage space next to those Suites that the crew accesses during the flight.

4A and 4K are suffering from the galley noise and I would not recommend them.

The Suites in row 3 are the only ones with 3 windows and my favourites. My standard choice is 3A - for some reason I prefer to sit on the left-hand side.

Flying JFK-SIN, and only have 4A but the middle seats are free. Do you recommend 4A or take row 2 or 3 middle seats because of the galley noise?

4A and 4K are worse and the middle ones are better. If you have both seats for you, the even make the big double bed for you - they have done that for me in the past.

There are 4 of us booked SIN-HKG-SFO on SQ2. We are the only ones in Suites HKG to SFO, but when we went to reserve seats only 4A, 4K, 2A, and 3A are available due to the SIN - HKG sector being full. Obviously we want to avoid 4A & 4K and the middle seats would be perfect. I called to see if they could block the middle seats for us HKG - SFO, but no luck. Any thoughts?

If you misconnect in F and the next flight to the destination is on the A380, will they rebook you in suites (space available of course)? Trying to figure out how sad I would be if I should happen to miss a tight connection I have coming up. ;)

Hi everyone, this will be my first time on SQ A380. Im wondering why on SQs website it is showing 3 rows of middle seat suites when all forums and reviews I have read about states 2 rows? Also, SQs website also shows that row 1CD and 2CD and 3CD are all occupied, but if i try a dummy booking, then it is an available seat to select. But it will not allow me to switch my current 2 window seats to the suite. Anyone knows why? Thanks

SQ website shows 2 not 3. See here:

Sorry I misspoke. What I meant to say was that on SQ mobile, it shows 3 rows of suites with all three rows as being occupied. But when I tried a dummy booking it shows only two rows and only the second row is occupied. However I couldn't change my seats into the first row of suites because it shows as occupied. Any thoughts? Thanks

I've noticed the same (incorrect) seat configuration on the mobile site, as well. Unfortunately, the website and, lately, mobile site are full of issues like problems with seat selection. Your best option would be to call SQ and have an agent get you the seats you want.

We (x2) are currently booked SIN-LHR on SQ322 in early 2013 and have secured 2 of the middle suite seats.
Our plans have changed slightly, and thus we may need to change to either SQ318 or SQ308. Before I speak to my OTA is there any website I can use to see which specific seats are still available up front as this will have a bearing on which flight we move to?

Thanks all

If you post the date, I'm sure any of us with EF membership will be willing to let you know. Otherwise, you could always call SQ as well.

SQ318/21FEB13: No assigned seats yet (all unoccupied)
SQ308/21FEB13: No assigned seats yet (all unoccupied)

Looks like you'll have your pick on either flight.

Even with the free version of expert flyer, you can go to seat alert and key in your flight details to pull out the seat map

I'm showing on a bunch of flights it's showing R4 F4 (with A and P usually being between 1 and 3). Do R and F max out on EF at 4? Is there a way to know exactly how many seats are still available? The seat map doesn't guarantee anything, b/c anyone who hasn't pre-booked a seat doesn't show up.

Thoughts...?

Hey Guys,

I hope someone is familiar with this. I tried booking an award ticket on F from LAX - CEB (Philippines). When I did the search, it said that only business class seats are available. I changed my search (same day) to LAX - SIN on F. First Class showed up for grabs! However, my final destination isn't SIN so I didn't book the flight. I called the Krisflyer and they told me that the only way I could do this online (I want to do this online due to the 15% miles discount) is to have two separate bookings! One leg from LAX - SIN and then the next is SIN - CEB. It this true? If so, this can cost more miles, which is just equivalent if I booked it on the phone.

Well on a similar dilemma, if I booked two separate flights (LAX-SIN and SIN-CEB) on the same carrier (Singapore) with two separate reservation numbers do you think they will allow me to check through my luggage all the way to CEB or are they going to charge me for the extra luggage (as you are only allowed 1 from SIN - CEB). I appreciate your help guys!!

I'm no expert on these SQ matters, but as I understand it you can only book J OR F all the way through if you want the online discount. Since F doesn't go all the way to Cebu, that means that, yes, you'd have to get a separate award ticket SIN-CEB or make your mileage ticket all the way. Having just done the SQ F 380 suites, I'd say that if you have them then spring for the extra miles on the two tickets to experience the suites for most of your trip. SQ 380 F is arguably the best commercial airline experience one can have.

As for the luggage question, I'd think that traveling SQ J or F you can book more than one check-in bag all the way through. But if you're limited to one, you could always do a decent-sized wheelie carry on. I had a 21" wheelie carry-on and a smaller bag on top of it that I brought onto our SQ F suite flight without any problem.

SQ knows the shortcomings of its online capabilities and will honor the 15% discount when calling in.

Yep this is my experience, but sometimes I have to ask to speak to a supervisor, or ask them to check, etc. If I get the discount they always say "this time only never again"... But I still call up, you never know if you don't ask.

SQ in the Thai office wasn't very helpful today so I called SQ in Singapore and they were prompt, professional and offered the 15% discount for a D to Suites upgrade award. I was very impressed and saved lots of miles!
