I was flying LHR>ZRH on LX333 a couple of days back (27/7). On the descent into Zurich, the overhead screens showed the connecting flight information for passengers with onward journeys. The top four connections were Salzburg, Venice, Dusseldorf and one other. The fifth was noted as "short connection - please proceed immediately to gate": LX466 > LHR! A 50-min connection back to London. An FTer on a mileage run? ;)

LX466 according to swiss.com is ZRH-LCY. Someone wanted to avoid travelling from LHR to LCY through central London on the day of the Olympic Opening Ceremony and decided to fly via ZRH. :D

I'm positive the screen showed "LHR" rather than "LCY". But I could have been mistaken. Any road, your explanation is entirely plausible ;).

A lot of couriers do an immediate turnaround, this may have been a person picking up or dropping off documents.

Last Christmas I did LCY->ZRH, then train to Basel and completed the journey BSL->LHR..
Reason was I had the return leg booked from ages back (the BSL->LHR) as a personal ticket, then work sent me to London to work for a few weeks (I normally work in Zürich).
I used the return leg of the work ticket to get to ZRH just so I could use up my own return ticket.
This was partly for the miles but also because I've heard they don't like you booking a return ticket and only using the outward leg..
