United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Interline Baggage between UA and KA on Separate Tickets

My wife and I are booking two award tickets from BOS to HKG, and we need to get a separate ticket from HKG to KHH on KA for my wife's trip back to her hometown in Taiwan. I have few questions for interline baggage:

Do we need to take the baggage in Hong Kong and recheck them at the airport, or we can ask the gate agent in BOS to check them all the way to KHH?
Does it work reciprocal that I could do the same when I fly back from KHH to HKG on KA, then onwards to BOS on UA?

Thanks!

You mean check-in agent, right?

I think the answer is most likely YES if you can prove you have a reservation on the continuing flight. I am not sure how you can confirm that to be 100% sure...

If not, then you have to enter HKG to claim the bag and re-check. That will take a lot more time and HKG-KHH becomes the weight system.

When you do KHH-HKG-BOS, keep in mind that KHH-HKG will be on the weight system instead of the piece system. Since there are two tickets, I don't think Dragon will waive any excess baggage fees if you go over 20 KG (for Y).

I have done ORD-HKG-Kaoshuing SHaogang before a few times, no self transfer bags, UA can transfer to Hong Kong Dragon Air. You just need baggage tags for Dragon ir check in at the transfer desk in Hong Kong. I like this connect, but our Kaoshuing office prefers the high speed rail link to Taoyuan's Airport UA flight because its ontime (rail) vs this summers delays at HKG.

Thanks for the information. In terms of the baggage allowance, does KA honor the Most Significant Carrier rule even there are two separate tickets, since KA only has 20kg allowance per passenger.

FYI, UA is ending the TPE-NRT route at the end of October. I previously researched for tickets and this leg would be served by ANA.

I do not believe that KA has to honor the Most significant Carrier rule... you are not on one ticket.... which is what that rule protects.

I would expect that you will be bound by the KA luggage allowance, granted I have never flown them... and you might get a sympathetic agent... but do not be surprised to be bound by their rules.
