United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Equipment changed to old C. Any options?
I booked a TATL in C, and have found the equipment has been changed so is now an old 777. I would never have booked C on an old plane. If I had known it would be old style I would have taken a different route or flown Y.
Question is can I either change routing? It's discounted C so there will be change fees involved. When I booked, I was able to get a good seat on a new plane so it seemed worth paying up for C, but it isn't to get one of the old seats right by the restroom.
Or am I just unlucky in the roulette game United makes us play now?

You're screwed. Happened to many of us, including me. That's why I will no longer fly paid UA international biz on a 777 until this can no longer happen, unless I can get a confirmed upgrade to F at time of booking.

Unlucky, though you may (particularly if you ask for it) get some compensation (say, $240-$400). For a TATL, old C sucks, but it still beats Y and is tolerable.

When does the actual flight take place? If the flight is in a day or two, good luck making any changes. If you're lucky, UA will automatically send you an e-mail inviting you to visit their appreciation website to select either a voucher or miles for the trouble.

Several thoughts here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-mileage-plus-pre-merger/1184313-new-777-changed-old-one-what-do.html?highlight=changed
(*I didn;t RBP, as it is a PMUA thread)

I've had this happen a few times TPAC this year. Sucks even more being stuck in Y with no power.
Your roulette luck didn't play out here.

In the two and only two occasions when an old 777 was substituted, I received an email immediately after landing from customer care and was offered to choose some options on the appreciation link.
Thanks all for the suggestions, and for the thread. Given the cost of upgrades, and my recent (bad) record at clearing them, any compensation will be little comfort when I am stuck by the toilets.

I am probably among a small minority, but I loved the old C. Since I tend to read or sleep and don't have much use for entertainment (plus the maps on the old entertainment system were much better... easier access to information), I found the seats comfortable and loved all the legroom.
And bottom line, much easier to upgrade when there were more seats. :(

Why are you stuck by the lavatories? There are lots more C seats in the old configuration. I do like the flat seaats for sleeping, but if its a day flight the old seats with a LOT MORE storage space are fine for me:)

Don't know about others, but I had the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I called 1K line and they changed my reservation (same date, new configuration) and waived all fees. The agent told me she needed to talk to the supervisor, but the whole thing took no more than 10 mins. I guess it depends on the agent. Worth a call.

+1 - Never understood why people don't call first. If there's a seat to be had, UA will likely make the change. If there isn't, it's not about fees, it's about avail.

There's always a chance for an equipment change. Even if you change your flight, there's no guarantee that the new flight won't have an equipment change. Maybe your flight will switch back to new config. My sister was booked on the old config 767-400ER until 3 days prior to departure. The following day her upgrade cleared into BF on the new config plane.

Just common sense. If you don't call, how do you expect UA to try to help? When all else fails, if your on a full fare tkt, hpjust change it. If your in an upgrade, at least your not in Y

Or book another airline.
Don't understand all the anger and frustration on this topic. Everyone on FT (in the UA forum) knows not all the 777s are done and you're pushing your luck if you book a flight on one.
Just don't do it.
Stuck by lavs as that was seat I was given and only those or middles now left.
Had already rung twice and no luck. Just rang again, and now rerouted. ^
But I shouldn't have to spend 2 hours on the phone to get what I originally paid for.
