Hi. Looks like my flight (KE38) from ORD to ICN has changed from a 777 to 747...anyone know why they would do this? Anyone have any experience they care to share on this route or aircraft in terms of comfort? Looks like the last few rows offer 2 seats rather than 3.

Nobody's flown on one of their 747s before?

It is mentioned here: Korean Air Chicago Aircraft Changes in late-Aug 2012 (http://airlineroute.net/2012/07/09/ke-ord-aug12/). No explicit explanation is given, but it seems to be a temporary change to increase seat capacity.

Only in J :)

Indeed, it seems the last few rows of Y on the window sides are only 2s, rather 3s. SeatGuru (http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Korean_Air/Korean_Air_Boeing_747-400_B.php) makes the kind of comment you would expect about these seats: nice to have only 2 seats; additional space between seat and the window; but last to disembark. Also, being near the toilets may be noisy, and the very last row may have limited recline.

I assume AVOD is the same throughout the plane (apart from a smaller screen in Y, no doubt) and it has a reasonable (but not massive) selection of movies, IIRC.

The window seat in the first row that drops from 3 seats to 2 seats on the sides in the back of Economy is absolutely the best seat to take. It's been a while for me, but that was the seat I preferred and I was very happy with it. A lot more shoulder room (a good thing, unless you like to sleep by leaning against the wall, which you can't do in this seat), some extra space for your in-flight gear beside you, and one fewer person to ask to get past when you need to get up to walk around.

Thank you...that's exactly the one I reserved.
