Friend and I want to travel from SGN to RGN in early January on Thai - goes via BKK. On the return, we actually want to end journey in BKK and collect bags etc as that is where our onward connection back home is from on another airline - going back to SGN makes no sense at all.
So basically what we want to do when we check in in RGN is to be checked to BKK only and to collect bags there - in other words forfeit the rest of the trip to SGN.
Does anyone know if that's possible? Definitely hope so because the SGN to RGN fare is very reasonable indeed.
Thanks!

My recommendation in this case is to change your ticket so the return leg terminates in BKK - this is easiest, cleanest solution.
If you can't or don't want to do this, then you'll need to hope for a friendly check-in agent. The agent may or may not allow you short-check to terminate in BKK and then forfeit the BKK-SGN sector. Note, the fare SGN-BKK-RGN-BKK is almost definitely different to the SGN-BKK-RGN rtn fare, so don't be surprised if the agent denies your request. Afterall, you've purchased one fare and now want to travel another.
The one thing you should not do is check in for RGN-BKK-SGN and then not board for SGN in BKK. This causes so much cost and disruption it's not funny (esp if you have checked luggage).
One more alternative, just buy a completely separate RGN-BKK ticket and forfeit the return leg to SGN of your original ticket.

If this is indeed how you decide to travel make sure you have a substantial break in your travel, like an overnight in BKK, to justify only checking your bags midpoint of your itin and not all the way back to SGN.
