Me and two of my friends will be hitting Las Vegas from September 9th till 11th on our roadtrip along Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. For our stop in Vegas, we're looking for a two bedroom suite at an affordable rate. ;)

Anyone have any tips?

What is "affordable"? $500-600 per night?

My tip would be to consider getting 3 basic rooms and forgo the fantasy of a 2-br suite. It really limits your options and anything in a good hotel with a good location will be pricey.

I agree with yankeeflyer.

for most (not all) purposes, multiple regular rooms work as well as a proper suite

and the pricing for 2-bedroom suites is usually exorbitant

Unless you really want to have a nice private hang out space, I agree with the others that suggest getting separate regular rooms.

I don't know what "affordable" is to you. But if you do want a true 2 bedroom suite with a nice living room, check out Mandalay Bay. They have some two bedroom suites where one bedroom has a single bed and the other has two beds.. Each bedroom has a full bath. And there is a nice sized livign room connecting it together.

something around 500-600 for the stay would be reasonable for us. currently looking at a Tower (2 Bedroom) Suite at the Mirage for 888usd. anyone got a tip to lower the rate?

Can anyone in the group get a better rate based on play at The Mirage or other MGM properties?

Vegas on a budget is very easy. Have you called the property and asked? Do you have AAA (as those rates are usually considerably lower) or other discount possibilities? Have you checked TravelZoo or Jetsetter, or any other discounter? Have you checked Hotwire? I live in Vegas, and I can tell you Vegas can be very cheap to stay if you know the right information and ask the right questions. Also consider checking Craigslist for Las Vegas > Vacation Rentals... You'll be surprised, as many locals own properties on the strip and rent them out (Platinum hotel, the MGM Signature, etc)

I had friends book on Expedia for the mystery hotel. They ended up at the Trump which isn't really ideal but when they got there and asked for adjoining rooms they were told they didn't have adjoining rooms so the hotel upgraded them for free to the 2 bedroom Penthouse suite. They loved it so much they almost didn't leave the room their first night. I think they paid about $80/night.
