Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - What is the 1000 mile thing they got rid of?

Was that for OLCI?

I just checked my husband's MP account, and on the day we BOOKED his flight there is 1000 miles for "Special Services Web Purchase Bonus with Bank Card"...the interesting thing is, he did NOT use the AS BofA credit card to purchase this ticket, used a completely different card (that we're trying to get to a certain bonus level with).

Not that I'm complaining but why did he get these 1000 miles?

The bonus is for booking a ticket at alaskaair.com with an AS Visa. It is awarded to the traveler a few days later, sometimes 2 weeks later or more. If you saw the award the day you booked the ticket, it's not for that purchase, it's for something else you or another AS Visa cardholder purchased previously.

He must have purchased another ticket with his BOA Credit Card a week or two ago.

Tell me if this is possible...bought a ticket the same day using the BofA card. Flights had to be changed. I said "we really need to use this other card", so cancelled the first flights completely, and rebooked the new flights using the different, non-AS card.

Could the 1000 miles bonus have been processed in that short a time between booking and cancelling on the same day?

Well if that happened then the 1,000 mile bonus will disappear from his account eventually.

That's fine.

1000 mile booking bonuses have never posted same day. It's always been at least 2-3 days.

I've matched up all the other 1000 mile bonuses with prior trips (and they were almost 2 months ago). This definitely looks like it belongs to these latest flights.

I'm sure they'll take it away soon - easy come, easy go.

So I could go book 100 random $70 one way QX fares somewhere, cancel them all, and get 100,000 miles? Doubtful.

Cancelled and kept the ticket value in your bank? Or refunded your ticket?

Completely refunded to the original form of payment. It was an F ticket to begin with but would have still been refundable under the 24 hour rule.

Oh, you were asking the other guy. Mine was as above.

Nope, my booking bonuses have all been deducted within a few days of cancelling the ticket. There was a time in the past where the system didn't always sync up, but it's been consistently working as intended for some time now.

man that would have been sweet with fully refundable fares. mmm!

can confirm it doesn't work that way though; had to cancel a trip a few weeks ago and now see:
